PVPA has an immediate opening for an 8th Grade Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for a reflective practitioner who collaborates effectively with colleagues and understands the varied needs of middle school students. The ideal candidate will be a reflective practitioner who is interested in integrating the arts into the curriculum, teaching with a social justice lens, collaborating with students and colleagues, and has experience in implementing restorative practices in the classroom. This curriculum covers a range of physical and life science topics, engineering, and technology. Students are assessed through quizzes, tests, individual and group projects, homework assignments, lab work, presentations, and class activities. Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, you will be responsible for:


  1. Teaching five blocks of Science 8 and Advisory.
  2. Use an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework to prepare curricula and instructional materials based on learning objectives.
  3. Plan curricula and prepare course expectations and materials.
  4. Supervise students during non-class time (ex: lunch) as required.
  5. Assess student work and provide timely feedback to students and parents via the PowerSchool online grading system.
  6. Apply PVPA standards based grading system to report on student course progress and achievement.
  7. Attend and participate in regular collaborative team meetings with faculty and school-wide professional development activities
  8. Attend and participate in meetings with students and/or parents as scheduled, including open house.
  9. Coordinate with special educators to address the diverse needs of all learners
  10. Other duties as required.


Qualifications;

The successful candidate will minimally hold a BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting) and be computer literate. Preferred qualifications include:


  1. Two or more years of experience teaching science in a public or private school.
  2. Eligible for “Highly Qualified” teacher status (MA Certified or able to pass Communication & Literacy and General Science MTEL exam within 1 year).
  3. Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
  4. Experience with middle school students
  5. Knowledge of discipline curriculum standards
  6. Interest or experience in the arts


Other Information/Instructions:

Salary Range: Full time $43,268 to $68,719 annually dependent upon degree and experience. Eligible for $1,000 sign-on bonus and relocation reimbursement.


2026-2027 school year consists of 180 school days plus 5 professional development/curriculum work days and a thirty-five hour work week that includes, on average, three class blocks per day of collaborative/independent work time.
