The HR Generalist is responsible for assisting the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management with the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resource function. A major area of focus is on recruiting candidates and onboarding of new hires.  This position provides management and administrative support to the HR function as needed (e.g., written correspondence, record keeping, file maintenance, and updating the Jenzabar database).

In addition this position manages the student employment process. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage recruitment and onboarding of new candidates through ADP;
  • Manage entire life cycle of student employment process;
  • Compose and prepare routine contracts and correspondence for signature; 
  • Prepare recurring reports for signature/dissemination; 
  • Enter new hire information/update existing employee information in Jenzabar database; 
  • Contribute to maximizing the efficiency of office workflow processes;
  • Maintain HR portal pages, updating information and posting new forms as requested;  
  • Process and track leave requests; 
  • Assist with preparing documents/letters, packets of information and presentations;  
  • Answer the phone/incoming emails; provide information and receive information concerning matters related to the department including verifications of employment, payroll and benefit questions;  
  • Assist with annual open enrollment; 
  • Supervise student worker assistants;    
  • Enforce HR and University policies; 
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • BS/BA in Business Administration, Human Resources or closely aligned discipline required
  • Three or more years’ experience in HR generalist duties/responsibilities 
  • Strong knowledge of ADP, Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word), and ability to learn/effectively operate the Jenzabar database 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality required 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently displaying proactive thinking/planning 
  • Must be able to adapt, learn new tasks/duties/assignments and be flexible

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
 
There are limited physical demands; however, this position requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard, and hearing and speaking on the telephone. The candidate must be able to lift, pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
