Job Summary 

The Safety Specialist role is primarily responsible for providing technical safety and health-related support to various departments and teams to foster a Safety-First culture. In this role, you are responsible for leading and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and standards. 

 Key Accountabilities

  • Administer and maintain existing safety & health programs, policies, and procedures. 
  • Conducts annual safety program compliance reviews. 
  • Prepare safety-related reports and presentations. 
  • Develop and present safety related training and educational programs. 
  • Interacts with project site personnel to ensure compliance with regulations. 
  • Assist in the administration of industrial hygiene-related activities. 
  • Safely operate a company vehicle and use other means of travel to reach locations. 
  • Provide day-to-day support for third-party inspection personnel. 
  • Conduct Vendor safety pre-qualification analysis. 
  • Support Operations to develop and provide pre-shutdown deliverables. 
  • Support Operations Safety Committee. 
  • Provide deliverables for pre-bid and pre-construction meetings. 
  • Develop new safety and health programs as necessary. 
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6 years of job-related experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Preferred:  

  • Familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations and compliance standards 
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health 

Other Requirements 

  • Qualified to sit for Certified Safety Professional (CSP by BCSP) examination. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to function in a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader. 
  • Actively develops and maintains productive relationships for the purpose of strengthening the company’s safety culture. 
  • Identifies and acts on teaching moments.
