Job DetailsJob Location: Southern Maine - South Portland, ME 04106PROJECTED START DATE: August 31, 2026     STARTING SALARY RANGE: $41,531 - $66,645     DEPARTMENT: Math     REPORTS TO: Department Chair or Dean of Education     RESPONSIBILITIES: Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) seeks a full-time mathematics faculty member beginning August 2026. Duties include teaching 15 contact hours or the equivalent each semester; developing, modifying, and assessing curricula; continuously improving teaching methodology and student-centered learning; staying current in the field; advising and maintaining scheduled availability to students; participating with other faculty in developing and managing courses, curricula and academic policy; participating in department and college activities, including committee work, college activities, and college service; and other professional duties related to the position that contribute to the college. Appointments begin at the instructor level.          MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree in mathematics or related field  At least two years teaching experience at the college level  Ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds Experience working collaboratively with colleagues       PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  At least three years community college teaching experience  Experience teaching courses in two or more of the following: quantitative reasoning, statistics, college algebra, technical mathematics, or differential equations  Ability to relate mathematics to real-world concepts and career applications Evidence of using active learning practices           BENEFITS: 100% employer paid health, dental and life insurance for employees (spouse/dependent coverage also available), vision insurance, choice between Maine Public Employees Retirement System or TIAA in lieu of social security, generous sick/personal time allowances, professional development, and free tuition within the MCCS for employee, spouse and qualifying dependents.
