Color is revolutionizing cancer care with the nation’s first Virtual Cancer Clinic, delivering high-quality, physician-led multidisciplinary care across all 50 states. Our innovative, guideline-based approach spans cancer screening, risk assessment, prevention, diagnosis, treatment support, and survivorship. In addition to personalized direct medical care, our services include cancer genetics risk assessment, nutrition, mental health support and at-home cancer screening diagnostics. Using technology-driven, patient-centric solutions, Color is transforming how employers, unions, health plans, and governments address cancer. Color’s goal is to close critical cancer care gaps, improve cancer outcomes, and guide patients with empathy through their healthcare journeys.

Color is a fast-moving digital health startup. Our tools, workflows, and programs evolve quickly as we scale, and we're looking for people who are energized by that pace rather than unsettled by it.

Apply to join Color and do the most meaningful work of your career. If you are not sure that you’re 100% qualified but are up for the challenge - we want you to apply!

About the Role:
Genetic Counselors are central to how Color drives better outcomes, patient experience, and prevention across the cancer journey. You're often the person helping someone understand that their risk is manageable and what to do about it — and the person guiding someone through a genetic result that changes how they think about their health. Every conversation matters.

Most of your caseload will be cancer risk assessment visits and counseling for people with positive or complex hereditary cancer results — the vast majority of whom aren't cancer patients, just people trying to understand their risk before it's too late. You'll also support a smaller, meaningful slice of members already in active cancer treatment. All of it happens over phone and video, so your ability to build real trust virtually is the job. We're looking for someone with broad clinical genetics knowledge and strong telehealth skills — comfortable discussing hereditary cancer risk and results (including PGx, HBOC, Lynch syndrome, and other predisposition syndromes) and building real trust with patients entirely over phone and video. And someone who can appropriately coordinate care with a full virtual medical team.

This is a startup, not a hospital system. Our workflows, tools, and programs change fast because we're scaling fast — and we want people who find that energizing, not exhausting. If you like figuring things out, owning your own caseload, and helping build the playbook instead of just following one, you'll thrive here.

This position reports to the Director, Care Services and coordinates closely with the Clinical Reporting, Support, Laboratory, and Variant Science teams, to ensure a seamless virtual care experience for patients navigating cancer risk and diagnosis.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Conduct genetic counseling visits for the majority of caseload volume to individuals with positive or complex hereditary cancer genetic and pharmacogenomic results, discussing test findings, risk implications, and published medical management and screening recommendations

  • Conduct cancer risk assessment visits — evaluating personal and family cancer history, genetic and non-genetic risk factors, characterizing hereditary cancer risk, and identifying candidates for genetic testing

  • Support Color's active cancer treatment patients with genetic counseling as a smaller, ongoing part of caseload

  • Deliver clear, compassionate cancer risk guidance in a telehealth format, building rapport and trust with clients without in-person interaction

  • Communicate complex hereditary cancer risk information clearly and compassionately to individuals with varying levels of health literacy, adapting communication style for phone- and video-based encounters

  • Navigate Color's telehealth platform, EHR, and virtual scheduling tools efficiently to manage a remote cancer genetics caseload

  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of client interactions in Color's systems in accordance with clinical, telehealth, and regulatory standards

  • Stay current on hereditary cancer genetics literature, testing methodologies, NCCN and other published medical management guidelines, and telehealth best practices relevant to Color's oncology programs

  • Adapt quickly to evolving workflows, tools, and processes as Color's programs scale, and contribute ideas for continuous improvement

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program

  • Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)

  • Licensed (or license-eligible) in the state of residence

  • 3+ years clinical experience providing genetic counseling in at least one of the following areas: hereditary cancer, cardiovascular genetics, and/or pharmacogenomics

  • Comfort operating with ambiguity and change — thrives in a fast-paced startup environment where processes and tools evolve regularly

  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to independently identify and implement solutions in a virtual cancer care setting

  • Proven ability to build rapport, trust, and clear understanding with patients in a virtual care setting

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex cancer genetics concepts clearly and empathetically over the phone or via video

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience counseling on results from the ACMG59 gene panel

  • Experience delivering genetic counseling via telehealth

  • Active licensure in multiple U.S. states (especially California)

  • Experience serving diverse and/or underserved populations

  • Prior experience in a telehealth, virtual care, or telephone-based cancer genetic counseling role strongly preferred

  • Prior experience in a startup or other rapidly-scaling environment

  • Ability to work PST hours

    What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary

  • ✨ Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits

  • 401k match

  • Monthly phone and wifi stipend for employees, annual ergo stipend

  • Generous vacation policy, paid holidays and company-wide recharge days

  • Equal paid parental leave for birthing and non-birthing parents

  • Modern Health, Maven, Rocket Lawyer memberships

  • Access to Color’s Cancer Screening Service
