Overview
Job Summary
Evaluates and assess patients to establish functional, measurable goals to promote restoration of cognition, communication and/or swallowing abilities. Provides treatment according to a written plan of care to meet established goals. Plans for discharge and communicates findings and progress according to professional licensure/certification, scope of practice, and departmental policies and procedures.
In addition to core clinical responsibilities, the Lead Speech-Language Pathologist provides frontline clinical and operational leadership support to the Speech Therapy team. Assists Rehab Manager with workflow coordination, scheduling support, onboarding activities, and departmental communication. Serves as a clinical resource and ambassador for performance improvement to clinical and management staff while maintaining a patient care caseload. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Completes assigned goals. Provides general leadership, management and oversight of free-standing rehabilitation clinic operations.
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels.
- Evaluates and assesses the patient based on subjective and objective information.
- Develops a written plan of care.
- Provides treatment according to established goals on plan of care.
- Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care and reassesses patient's functional status as needed.
- Provides discharge planning information which includes patient/family education, follow-up, and referral to community resources.
- Contributes to the development of staff and students.
- Completes assigned goals.
- Participates in activities designed to improve health care delivery.
- Provides day-to-day clinical leadership support to Speech Therapy staff
- Assists Rehab Manager with therapist scheduling support and maintenance
- Proactively identifies staffing or coverage gaps and communicates needs
- Participates in interviews for new hires as requested
- Coordinates onboarding schedules and tracks competency completion
- Supports orientation and training of new team members
- Serves and clinical resource and mentor to SLP staff
- Promotes effective communication between frontline clinicians and leadership
- Assists with monitoring compliance items
- Supports departmental quality, productivity, and patient experience initiatives
- Maintains expected productivity standards while performing lead duties

Minimum Required
- 3 years of progressive rehabilitation experience since licensure.

- Certificate of Clinical Competency by American Speech-Language, Hearing Association.
