Job Overview
The Banquet Houseperson is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of banquet and meeting spaces to ensure successful event execution. This role prepares event areas according to specifications, maintains cleanliness and organization throughout functions, and provides support to banquet staff and guests as needed. The Banquet Houseperson plays a critical role in ensuring all equipment, room arrangements, and service areas are properly prepared and maintained.
This position operates in a fast-paced event environment requiring physical activity, attention to detail, and responsiveness to changing event needs. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors depending on event requirements, with exposure to noise, varying surfaces, and cleaning chemicals. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, teamwork, and a proactive approach to event support.
Job Responsibilities
Event Setup & Breakdown
- Set up banquet rooms and meeting spaces according to event orders and specifications
- Arrange tables, chairs, linens, and equipment for events
- Break down rooms and restore spaces following event completion
- Ensure proper placement of centerpieces, table settings, and décor elements
Room Preparation & Maintenance
- Drape tables, set silverware, fold napkins, and prepare meeting spaces as required
- Ensure all equipment is in proper working condition and report any defects
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of banquet, meeting, and conference areas
- Follow established cleaning schedules for all event spaces
Guest Support & Service Assistance
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to guests during events
- Replenish beverages, including water service, and maintain stocked meeting rooms
- Respond promptly to guest requests and assist with minor service needs
- Exercise good judgment in handling guest concerns and escalate when necessary
Inventory & Equipment Coordination
- Anticipate equipment and supply needs based on event orders
- Ensure meeting rooms are stocked with clean glassware and necessary supplies
- Assist in organizing and maintaining storerooms and back-of-house areas
- Clean and organize back halls and storage areas after event
Safety, Cleanliness & Compliance
- Comply with all hotel safety, fire, and health regulations
- Maintain clean and hazard-free workspaces throughout events
- Properly handle cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Support adherence to company policies and operational standards
Team Support & Communication
- Attend pre-shift meetings and remain informed of event requirements
- Communicate effectively with banquet team and management
- Support other food and beverage roles as needed to ensure successful event execution
Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Prior experience in banquet setup, hospitality, or a related field preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills in guest service situations
- Strong attention to detail in room setup and cleanliness standards
