Position Summary The Senior Military Instructor serves as the senior leader responsible for the oversight, development, accountability, and daily management of the Corps of Cadets. This position ensures the effective execution of military structure, cadet discipline, leadership development, accountability systems, and the overall military lifestyle experience in support of the College's mission.

The Senior Military Instructor develops and enforces standards that promote discipline, personal responsibility, character development, and leadership growth while fostering a positive, structured, and mission-focused cadet environment. This role oversees cadet conduct, military training, coaching, counseling, and mentorship programs designed to prepare cadets for success in military service, higher education, and professional leadership environments.

In a disciplined, student-centered environment, the Senior Military Instructor ensures cadets are challenged, supported, and developed through consistent leadership engagement, accountability, and professional mentorship.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Cadet Leadership & Accountability

  • Oversee the daily accountability, supervision, and management of the Corps of Cadets
  • Establish and enforce cadet standards, policies, and expectations
  • Ensure cadet accountability systems are maintained for attendance, formations, conduct, academics, and military participation
  • Monitor cadet performance, readiness, and adherence to institutional and military standards

Coaching, Counseling & Mentorship

  • Provide direct coaching, counseling, and mentorship to cadets regarding leadership, discipline, academic success, and personal development
  • Develop systems for proactive cadet engagement, intervention, and support
  • Ensure TAC Officers and military staff maintain effective developmental counseling programs
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, resilience, responsibility, and accountability

Leadership Development

  • Design, implement, and oversee cadet leadership development programs and experiential learning opportunities
  • Mentor cadet leaders in leadership principles, communication, decision-making, and ethical leadership
  • Develop leadership progression models that prepare cadets for increasing responsibility within the Corps
  • Coordinate leadership training, evaluations, and professional development activities

Discipline & Military Standards

  • Maintain good order and discipline throughout the Corps of Cadets
  • Oversee cadet disciplinary systems, corrective action processes, and standards enforcement
  • Ensure consistent application of military customs, courtesies, appearance standards, and institutional regulations
  • Coordinate investigations, disciplinary reviews, and corrective development plans as necessary

Military Lifestyle & Culture

  • Foster a positive military culture focused on discipline, teamwork, accountability, and personal growth
  • Ensure cadet military routines, formations, ceremonies, inspections, and traditions are executed effectively
  • Promote pride, esprit de corps, and adherence to military values and institutional expectations
  • Support the development of a structured and professional cadet living and learning environment

Training & Program Management

  • Oversee military training schedules, cadet activities, and developmental programming
  • Coordinate training exercises, ceremonies, leadership events, and military functions
  • Ensure military operations support institutional objectives and cadet development outcomes
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements where necessary

Organizational Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Athletics, Enrollment, and Operations to support cadet success
  • Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership regarding cadet development, discipline, morale, and military operations
  • Communicate expectations, priorities, and cadet-related issues effectively across the organization
  • Support parent, family, and stakeholder engagement related to cadet development and conduct

Performance Management & Accountability

  • Establish metrics to assess cadet development, discipline, retention, and leadership progression
  • Monitor staff performance and ensure accountability across military leadership personnel
  • Identify trends, risks, and developmental needs within the Corps of Cadets
  • Drive continuous improvement in cadet leadership and military development programs

Supervisory Responsibilities Direct oversight of TAC Officers, cadet leadership staff, and designated military personnel. Responsibilities include setting priorities, enforcing standards, evaluating performance, mentoring staff, and ensuring accountability for cadet development and military operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in leadership, military science, education, criminal justice, or related field
  • 5–10 years of leadership experience in military, educational, or structured leadership environments
  • Demonstrated experience leading personnel, enforcing standards, and developing College Cadets
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and counseling capabilities
  • Ability to operate effectively in a disciplined, mission-focused environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior military service as a commissioned officer or senior noncommissioned officer
  • Experience working in military schools, ROTC programs, service academies, or cadet leadership environments
  • Experience in student development, counseling, leadership instruction, or military training
  • Master's degree in leadership, education, counseling, or related field preferred
