Job Title: Lead Electronic Design and Integration Engineer
Department: Engineering
Accountability: This position reports to the General Manager
Scribner designs and manufactures electrochemical test and measurement systems for fuel cell, electrolyzer, membrane, flow chemistry, and battery research worldwide. The Lead Electronic Design and Integration Engineer is the technical owner of the electrical discipline at Scribner, holding design authority over the electrical architecture of all product lines and carrying primary responsibility for the electrical and integration design for new and legacy products.
This is a senior role both as an individual contributor, project management, and people management. This role may have direct reports and participate in hiring. The technical authority for this role includes setting electrical design standards, approving electrical designs for release, and representing the discipline in cross-functional design reviews and customer-facing technical discussions.
Responsibilities:
- Design circuit board assemblies, wiring diagrams, system-level electronics, 3rd party integrations, and assess system performance using CAD and simulation tools to meet all functional product requirements, including manufacturability, quality, and accuracy
- Perform technical design reviews and assessments to ensure products meet requirements
- Prepare manufacturing documentation for boards and systems for release to production
- Provide technical and hands-on support to engineering, validation, purchasing, quality, and production departments
- Conduct hazard and risk assessments for electrical aspects of new product development, continuous improvement projects, and operations
- Own parts lists/BOMs, assembly drawings, system configuration, schematics, wiring diagrams, layout drawings and work instructions collaboratively with Operations
- Own electrical engineering data within ERP system and document vault
- Provide technical support as needed to end customers and sales channels
- Conduct continuous improvement reviews and sustaining engineering initiatives
- Integration of third-party instruments (electronic loads, power supplies, potentiostats, etc.) into Scribner test systems
- Review and validate standard costs for electrical items and assemblies in coordination with operations and finance
- Mentor engineers and technicians on design practice, diagram reading, and electrical engineering skills
- Participate in interviews and technical evaluation of engineering candidates
- Contribute to product roadmap definition, development schedules, and effort estimates
- Support company technical initiatives
Requirements
- A self-starter in product design with a "can-do" attitude
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- A BSEE degree or equivalent experience
- At least five years of professional board-level product design experience
- Analog and microprocessor-based hardware design
- Embedded programming (C and assembly)
- Full-time on-premises position
Highly Desirable:
- Team leadership and project management experience
- Board-level design using Digital Signal Processor (DSP) controllers
- Test fixture design
- USB host communications interface design
- Electrochemical instrument design including Impedance Spectroscopy / Impedance Analysis hardware and firmware
- Hands-on prototyping and rapid iteration skills for early-stage experimental validation
