Description

Cardiovascular sonographer (ECHO) performs a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing 聽ultrasonic high frequency sound waves. Evaluation of anatomy and pathophysiology of the 聽cardiac and vascular systems by the use of diagnostic ultrasound. Support of Laboratory 聽operations by quality assurance activity, educational and Lab development accreditation 聽projects. 聽


Functions of the Position (not an exhaustive list):

  • Verifies patient identification and physician鈥檚 orders prior to performing any procedures
  • Acquires ultrasound images using correct technical factors and transducers. Evaluates 聽quality of images
  • Accurately prepares patient鈥檚 study for interpretation by the interpreting physician 聽(including presentation of any pertinent medical information
  • Uses the PACS system properly; images are sent and patient information is correctly 聽entered into the system. Troubleshoots equipment and communications needed 聽information to the Director聽


Requirements

Education:

  • Graduate of a formal Accredited School of Radiological Technology, preferable 聽a graduate of a formal diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
  • Active Registry in Medical Sonography by the ARDMS (American Registry of 聽Diagnostic Medical Sonographers)
  • Experienced sonographers must be ARDMS registered within 6 months of hire. 聽New graduates must be ARDMS registered with 1 year
  • BLS Certified 聽聽聽聽聽聽

Necessary skills:

  • Ability to comprehend and following instructions.
  • Time Management鈥攕et priorities to meet deadlines
  • Ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously

Physical Demands:聽

  • Constant standing or walking聽
  • Lifting/carry up to 50 lbs聽
  • Push/Pull wheelchairs, stretchers or patients up to 250 lbs聽
  • Manual dexterity and mobility聽
  • Reaching at all levels
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching聽
  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens聽
  • Handling toxic or caustic chemicals聽
  • Possible risk of electric shock or radiation exposure聽

Protective Equipment Required:

  • Safety glasses聽
  • Occasional use of rubber gloves or hearing protection
  • PPE as required
