JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I                                                                        

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:   Ensure the ongoing mechanical maintenance, repair, overhaul and installation of company machinery as well as maintenance of B & J buildings with an emphasis on external and internal customer service.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:

Essential

  • Detect and accurately diagnose equipment problems
  • Work with outsourced technicians when on site and coordinate pre-approved site visits
  • Disassemble equipment and repair or replace necessary machine parts
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure correct operation
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual preventive maintenance per manufacturers’ recommendations on all equipment
  • Adjust and calibrate automated equipment
  • Perform regular and preventive maintenance of building
  • Install new equipment as needed, according to manufacturers’ specifications
  • Order parts needed for repair or maintenance of equipment through Facilities Manager and B&J purchasing department, ensuring proper documentation in accordance with B&J requirements
  • Keep thorough record of maintenance and repair activities
  • Work proactively to identify and resolve safety issues 
  • Follow all safety procedures and standards
  • Work overtime as required
  • Maintain the responsibilities of the ISO 9001 system in accordance with the requirements defined in the Quality Manual, and Procedure Level documentation 
  • Participate actively and positively in Lean activities
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager

 

WORKS WITH: Manufacturers’ representatives, B&J team members

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Follow all OSHA safety regulations and those set by B&J Industries.

 

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Essential

  • Minimum two years industrial maintenance and repair experience
  • Ability to use a wide variety of tools and measuring devices
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate mechanical problems and recommend and implement appropriate repairs
  • Good blue print 
  • Good math skills (measure angles and material thicknesses; assess load bearing properties of ropes, cables, hoists and cranes)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong knowledge of electricity, plumbing, OSHA safety requirements
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good electronic repair knowledge
  • Computer literate

 

Beneficial

  • High school graduate plus relevant vocational training (e.g. sheet metal work, welding, etc.)
  • Degree in Electronics
  • Ability to modify parts to specifications using lathes, grinders, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant computerized equipment and their applications

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Maximum (minutes): Sit 24, Stand 96, Walk 120, Bend 9, Squat 72, Lift 24, Twist 5, Kneel 72, Reach above shoulder 5, Climb 48, Drive 5.

 

Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.  

 

Must have normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).

 

Working Environment: Shop environment. Moderate noise level. Exposure to dust, heat and cold.

 

This position will require drug testing per company policy.
