Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operation of the Human Resources Department including hiring and interviewing applicants, administering benefits and leave, and enforcing company policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  1. Interprets and explains human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations to employees and managers.
  2. Maintains current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  3. Prepares and maintains employment records and documentation related to events, such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions.
  4. Acts as a point of contact for employees and managers, addressing questions and concerns related to HR policies, benefits, and company practices, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  5. Assists employees with benefit inquiries, enrollments, and changes.
  6. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, ensuring that the HR systems are updated, and necessary paperwork is completed.
  7. Sources, screens, and interviews candidates for various positions within the company, participating in the selection process and making recommendations to hiring managers.
  8. Coordinates and conducts new employee orientations, ensuring a smooth onboarding process.
  9. Maintains and updates human resources documents, such as job descriptions, employee handbooks or performance evaluation forms.
  10. Confers with management to develop or implement personnel policies or procedures.
  11. Provides management with information or training related to interviewing, performance appraisals, counseling techniques, or documentation of performance issues.
  12. Researches and provides management with information related to training needs, employee development, and health and safety programs.
  13. Coordinates with outside staffing agencies to secure temporary employees, based on departmental needs. 
  14. Supports the HR team in various HR projects and initiatives, such as talent management, benefits administration, and employee engagement.

Additional Responsibilities:

 Perform additional duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, & Capabilities:

  1. Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, and personnel information systems.
  2. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  3. Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  4. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS systems, or related software.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  8. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  9. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  10. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  11. Bilingual: English and Spanish

Physical Requirements:

  1. Largely a sedentary role, however, routinely uses standard office equipment such as calculators, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and printers.
  2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  3. Must be able to access and navigate each department at company’s worksite or facilities.

Work Environment:

  1. Professional office environment. 
  2. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles due to necessary communication with warehouse.
  3. Occasionally exposed to noise level that is moderate to high.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Certification in Human Resources

Experience:

At least 2 years’ experience, related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
