Job Summary

This position counsels and aids disaster survivors, individuals and/or families requiring one or more forms of psychosocial services; interviews clients experiencing problems with personal and family adjustments, finances, employment, food, housing, physical and mental impairments, and/or similar areas; secures and evaluates applicable related information; refers clients to community resources and other organizations.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential duties/responsibilities listed below.  Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this job. 

 

  1. In either a clinical or a field setting, interview clients with problems such as personal and family adjustments, finances, employment, food, clothing, housing, and physical and mental impairments to determine nature and degree of need.
  2. Secure information such as medical, psychological, and social factors contributing to client's situation; evaluates these together with client's strengths.
  3. Counsel clients individually, in families, or in other small groups regarding plans for meeting needs, and aids clients to mobilize inner capacities and environmental resources to improve social functioning.
  4. Help clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of the nature and source of personal problems, and by identifying and building on personal strengths.
  5. Refer clients to community resources and other organizations as indicated; may determine or participate in determining client's eligibility for financial assistance.
  6. Compile records and prepare reports; develops and/or reviews service plan and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of service provided client and status of client's case.
  7. Accesses and records client and community resource information, manually or using personal computer, to input and retrieve information.
  8. May work in collaboration with other professional disciplines.
  9. Provide services that are culturally sensitive.
  10. Participate actively in community organizations/coalitions serving similar populations and needs.
  11. While working collaboratively with other personnel and service providers, is responsible for establishing a respectful relationship with people served while helping the client gain skills and confidence that will empower them to solve their own problems.
  12. Reinforce the value of the nurturing family and demonstrate a conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.
  13. Display appropriate interventions to meet service goals and ability to set appropriate service limits.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
  15. Uses appropriate administrative, fiscal, physical, and technical safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of CCEW client protected health information (PHI), per regulations outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  16. Will regularly utilize all forms of communication (email, text, phone, etc.) and database practices necessary for this position and as directed by supervisor.
  17. As a mandated reporter, follows all procedures outlined in agency policies and procedures to report to the proper agency when there is suspicion and/or confirmation that a child or adult has been a victim of abuse or neglect.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

  20. Perform as a team member to ensure that productivity outcome measures are achieved.

Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below.  These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job. 

 

Education/Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a

High school diploma; a bachelor’s degree in a related social service field is preferred. At least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

 

Certificates/Licenses: Must have a valid Driver’s License and ability to drive for work use. The individual must successfully pass the background check applicable to position.


Physical Abilities:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly sit, stand, climb, walk, hear/listen, talk
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds, pull/push, carry, grasp, reach
  • Occasionally crawl, stoop, kneel
  • Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses, ability to focus

  • Motor Coordination: the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, fingers, and feet accurately and handle precise movements.
  • Problem Solving Ability: ability to identify and/or prevent problems before they occur; ability to formulate alternative solutions to problems when necessary; ability to transfer learning from past experiences to new experiences of similar nature.
  • Quality Management: ability to complete duties, on time and with absolute precision, at least 95% of the time; ability to edit the accuracy and thoroughness of one’s work as well as the work of others;  ability to constructively apply feedback to improve performance, ability to generate ideas to improve and promote quality in work.

  • Supervisory Skills: this job does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will be:

  • Noise Conditions: exposed during a shift to constant or intermittent sounds at moderate to loud levels of sound dependent upon daily activities.
  • Exposure to Trauma: Employees of Catholic Charities Eastern Washington provide direct services to vulnerable community members including those who have behavioral health challenges and those who have been exposed to trauma.
