International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Mt. Spokane Pediatrics is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to support breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and infant-feeding families within our pediatric practice.

The IBCLC will provide evidence-based lactation care, practical education, and individualized feeding plans in collaboration with families, pediatric providers, and clinical staff. The ideal candidate is supportive, approachable, and able to help families navigate feeding challenges without judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive lactation assessments for infants and caregivers.
  • Observe feeding sessions and assess positioning, latch, milk transfer, and caregiver comfort.
  • Evaluate infant-feeding concerns, including poor latch, nipple or breast pain, low milk supply, oversupply, engorgement, plugged ducts, pumping difficulties, and return-to-work planning.
  • Support families with medically complex feeding concerns in collaboration with the child’s healthcare provider.
  • Measure and document infant weights and feeding progress as appropriate.
  • Develop realistic, individualized feeding plans based on each family’s needs and goals.
  • Educate families about breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, milk storage, supplementation, formula use, and safe infant-feeding practices.
  • Provide follow-up care and adjust feeding plans based on progress.
  • Recognize concerns requiring evaluation by a pediatrician, obstetric provider, or other healthcare professional.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to pediatric providers and members of the care team.
  • Maintain patient privacy and comply with HIPAA, clinic policies, and applicable professional standards.
  • Participate in staff education and help promote consistent, evidence-based lactation guidance throughout the practice.
  • Maintain current professional credentials and required continuing education.

Required Qualifications

  • Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification in good standing.
  • Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding, lactation, pumping, supplementation, formula feeding, and common infant-feeding concerns.
  • Strong assessment, education, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pediatric providers and clinical staff.
  • Ability to provide respectful, inclusive, and nonjudgmental care to families with different feeding goals and circumstances.
  • Comfortable using electronic health records and standard office technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience providing lactation services in a pediatric, outpatient, hospital, maternal-child health, or community setting.
  • Experience working with newborns, premature infants, infants with poor weight gain, and families experiencing complex feeding challenges.
  • Active Washington State healthcare license, if applicable to the candidate’s professional background.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks or a similar electronic health record system.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
