Job Summary:

The Rigger II performs and directs the rigging, hoisting, and placement of loads in support of heavy civil construction activities. Duties include selecting and inspecting rigging hardware, calculating load weights and sling configurations, attaching and detaching loads, and coordinating lifts with crane operators and signal persons in accordance with approved lift plans. Equipment and hardware used may include — but is not limited to — slings, shackles, hooks, spreader and equalizer beams, come-alongs, chain falls, and tag lines.

Duties & Responsibilities

Performs routine inspection of all assigned rigging equipment before each use;

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate job site and company safety and security standards to prevent property damage and injuries. Follows all airport operational, security, and access requirements.

Determines load weights, centers of gravity, and rigging configurations; verifies capacities against manufacturer load charts and rated capacity markings.

Attaches and detaches loads; controls and guides loads during hoisting using tag lines and other approved methods.

Executes lifts in accordance with approved lift plans; participates in pre-lift meetings, Job Hazard Analyses, and critical lift planning as directed.

Works with and assists the crew in hoisting and moving material, tools, and equipment, and any related work.

Provides support to the successful completion of construction and engineering work (structural placement, pipe and material handling, equipment moves, etc.)

Identifies and communicates hazards including suspended loads, pinch points, overhead obstructions, energized utilities, and unstable ground conditions; stops work when conditions are unsafe.

Maintains rigging inventory, inspection logs, and production records, as directed.

Provides direction and guidance to Rigger I and general labor personnel supporting lift operations.

Perform other duties, as and when assigned.

Qualifications

Valid Rigger Level II training card issued strictly by one of the following: NCCCO, Crane Institute of America, or Crane Tech. Candidates without a verified Level II certification from these specific bodies will not be considered.

Ability to clear federal and airport security background checks required for airport badging, including fingerprinting and criminal history records check, and to maintain credentials for the duration of the assignment.

Able to read and interpret load charts, rigging plans, and construction drawings.

Possess physical strength to handle rigging hardware and material, plus be willing and able to assist labor and pipe crews as needed.

Able to communicate effectively with others and work cooperatively in teams (including resolving basic conflicts with or without the assistance of management).

Able to perform detailed work and make effective decisions to maintain production, quality and safety under pressure and deadlines.

Handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress.

Physical Demands

Required to continuously use vision abilities, including close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, in order to judge load position, clearances, and sling angles.

Required to continuously hear and respond to verbal commands in a high-noise environment.

Regularly required to stand and walk on uneven, elevated, or unstable ground for extended periods; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and secure rigging hardware; reach with hands and arms, including overhead.

Frequently required to lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds (with or without assistance).

Frequently required to climb ladders and stairs and to work at elevated heights while using fall protection.

Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance and smell.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

Regularly works in outside weather conditions.

Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, suspended loads, and heavy equipment; is exposed to vibration, wet or humid conditions, heat, and other forms of inclement weather; and is exposed to loud noise.

Works on active airport property subject to security screening, restricted access areas, and operational interruptions.
