The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) acts as a strategic interface between IT and business units, to identify opportunities for technology and service improvement, and ensure that IT services align with business needs to enhance value delivery and innovation. This role develops and maintains trusted relationships with business stakeholders. For incoming demand for IT services, this role coordinates business prioritization, participates in the demand evaluation process, monitors effective service delivery and value realization, and supports organizational change through technology enablement. The BRM advocates for the business within IT and fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, bridging the gap between business needs and technological capabilities as a trusted advisor. 

What You Will Do:

  • Strategic Partnership: Build and maintain robust relationships with business stakeholders to understand their strategic goals and operational needs. Identify opportunities for technology and service improvements to support business growth and efficiency. Guide the development of business requirements to ensure clearly identified needs, intended outcomes, and potential constraints. Advise business leaders on existing IT services and solutions that may fit their requirements.
  • Demand Management: Collaborate with business units to prioritize IT service demands based on strategic objectives. Ensure projects and initiatives align with business goals.
  • Innovation: Identify opportunities for technology to improve business processes and drive growth. Collaborate cross-functionally to support digital transformation and innovation.
  • Service Delivery: Act as the primary point of contact between business and IT teams to ensure effective service delivery and timely issue resolution. Monitor and report on service performance against agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Value Realization: Measure and communicate the value delivered by IT services and projects. Identify opportunities for cost optimization and process improvements.
  • Change Management: Facilitate organizational change management processes to ensure smooth adoption of new technologies and processes by business users.
  • Communication and Advocacy: Advocate for business needs within IT, ensuring clear communication of requirements. Promote awareness of IT capabilities and innovations within business units.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with IT services and projects, developing strategies to minimize disruptions.
     

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business relationship management, IT consulting, or a related role.

  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional initiatives and engaging with senior stakeholders.

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Preferred Education: Master’s degree in a related field is a plus.

  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Business Relationship Manager (CBRM), ITIL, PMP, or similar certifications are desirable.

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with IT service management, enterprise architecture, and digital transformation strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of business goals, objectives, processes, industry trends, and how technology drives business success.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals. Understanding of enterprise portfolio and project management.
  • Influence and Negotiation: Skilled in influencing and negotiating to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with IT service management, enterprise architecture, and digital transformation strategies.
  • Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.
     

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to a VP-level role and may have direct reports.
