The Operations / Wellsite Geologist (Development Geologist) II or III is an office-based role responsible for supporting unconventional development drilling programs. This position oversees drilling activities, development well planning, and well placement while integrating geological data into broader field development strategies.
The role works closely with remote operations teams, onsite mudloggers, and cross-functional technical groups to ensure optimal well placement and efficient drilling execution.Responsibilities
• Create and execute development plans supporting unconventional drilling programs
• Coordinate with remote drilling operations and onsite mudloggers to ensure accurate well placement and efficient execution
• Oversee drilling activities and provide geological support for development wells
• Integrate geological data collected during drilling into the broader development model
• Coordinate drilling activities across multiple disciplines including Land, Regulatory, Reservoir Engineering, and Drilling teams
• Evaluate geological and operational data to support development planning and field optimization
• Support well planning and operational decision-making based on geologic interpretation
• Ensure data collected during drilling is accurately interpreted and incorporated into development modelsSkills & Qualifications
• 8–12 years of experience as a geoscientist in the oil and gas industry (flexible on upper experience range)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in unconventional development
• Minimum 2 years of experience supporting active drilling operations
• Proficiency in geological software including Petra, Kingdom, and Petrel
• Strong data interpretation and analytical skills
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary technical teams
• Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Experience
• Geosteering experience is a plus but not required
• Experience working in unconventional assets in Appalachia or Oklahoma preferredEducation
• Master’s degree or higher in Geology, Geoscience, or related field preferredComments
• 2 positions available: one supporting Appalachia assets and one supporting South Oklahoma assets
• Local Houston candidates preferred
• Office-based role with minimal travel to field locations
• In-person meet and greet preferred
• Candidates with strong unconventional experience outside Appalachia or Oklahoma may still be considered
