Head Racquet Professional – Job Description & Standards

Job Description:

Scope: The Head Racquet Professional plays a central leadership role within the Club’s racquet sports operation, supporting the Athletic Director or Raquet Sports Director in providing exceptional service, strategic program development, and professional oversight of tennis, pickleball, and junior programs. Provide the Three Steps of Service to the members and guests of the club. Organize racquet clinics and private lessons that encourage participation in the Club’s racquet activities. Promote tennis memberships to all potential prospects. Act as the Club’s Racquets Ambassador to enhance the value of the Club.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
  • USPTA or PTR Professional certification required
  • Additional certifications in pickleball instruction preferred
  • Ongoing continuing education in racquet sports instruction, player development, and industry trends

Experience:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Racquet Professional in a private club, tennis facility, or similar environment
  • Experience leading or supporting multi-pro teaching teams
  • Demonstrated success in developing adult, junior, and pickleball programming
  • Prior roles involving league management, event administration, and member engagement

Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Program Development

  • Assist the Athletic Director or Racquet Sports Director - lead, mentor, and support the Club’s team of teaching professionals to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality instruction and service.
  • Assist the Athletic Director or Racquet Sports Director - design, promote, and oversee a full calendar of racquet programming, including clinics, leagues, round robins, mixers, tournaments, junior development pathways, and pickleball offerings.
  • Ensure that racquet sports programs align with the Club’s strategic goals and member expectations.
  • Serve an ambassador for all racquet sports activity, fostering strong relationships with members and prospective members.

Instruction & Member Engagement

  • Provide private lessons, group clinics, and specialized programming for all ages and skill levels.
  • Actively engage with members and guests to promote participation, create a welcoming environment, and encourage long-term involvement in racquet sports.
  • Support membership growth by showcasing the value of the Club’s racquet amenities and programming to current and prospective members.

Service & Professionalism

  • Consistently deliver the Club’s Three Steps of Service and embody the highest standards of hospitality.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, communication, and interactions with members, guests, staff, and vendors.
  • Assist fellow employees, members, and guests proactively to ensure a seamless racquet sports experience.
  • Maintain organized and presentable workspaces, ensuring all racquet facilities meet Club standards.

Compensation Structure

  • Salary
  • Private Lessons: Salary plus commission
  • Clinics/Camps: Salary plus commission
  • Additional opportunities for professional services and program leadership may be available
