Lead Diesel Mechanic

As a Lead Diesel Mechanic at Ecowaste Solutions, you will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on our garbage truck fleet. This is a working lead role: you'll continue to handle hands-on diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance yourself, while also assigning workload across the shop's other mechanics and making sure the team stays on track day to day. Safety, accuracy, and attention to detail are critical in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on garbage trucks fleet
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs fleet equipment safely and correctly.
  • Conducts failure analysis, and repairs and rebuilds fleet equipment components correctly.
  • Assigns and delegates workload among other mechanics to keep the shop running efficiently.
  • Completes complex work orders with proper coding, including reason for repair, description of condition, cause, and correction, and properly completes the warranty return process as needed.
  • Informs management of housekeeping opportunities, harmful working conditions, and unsafe work practices, and suggests corrective actions.
  • Identifies and reports broken tools or missing supplies needed to perform repairs, and takes steps to resolve the issue when possible.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid state-issued CDL preferred but not required. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of diesel maintenance experience on garbage trucks, tractor-trailers, and/or heavy equipment required.
  • Experience with advanced diagnostics required.
  • Regularly bends, stoops, kneels, crawls, and reaches to access components on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
  • Frequently stands and walks on hard shop surfaces for extended periods.
  • Uses hands and arms extensively for gripping, reaching, and operating hand and power tools.
  • Work is performed primarily in a shop environment and may involve exposure to noise, fumes, grease, and varying temperatures.
