Quality Control & Metallurgical Manager

Position Summary

You will lead quality control and metallurgical functions for the plant. This role oversees inspection processes, ensures product quality meets specifications, and applies metallurgical expertise to support manufacturing, product performance, and continuous improvement.

You will manage quality inspectors, establish standards, and act as the technical resource for materials, heat treatment, and product performance.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Leadership

  • Lead and supervise quality inspectors and inspection processes 
  • Set and maintain quality standards for raw materials, in-process, and finished goods 
  • Review inspection results and address non-conformance issues 
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions 
  • Maintain documentation, records, and reporting for quality metrics 
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and customer requirements 

Inspection Oversight

  • Oversee measurement and testing of metal components using gauges and tools 
  • Ensure proper use of inspection equipment such as calipers and micrometers 
  • Train and guide employees on inspection methods and standards 
  • Audit production processes to verify consistency and accuracy 

Metallurgical / Engineering Support

  • Select materials and define specifications for steel and carbide products 
  • Analyze material performance and recommend improvements 
  • Support heat treatment, welding, forging, and fabrication processes 
  • Investigate product failures and recommend solutions 
  • Partner with engineering and production to improve product design and durability 

Process Improvement

  • Monitor manufacturing processes to improve quality and efficiency 
  • Identify root causes of defects and implement corrective actions 
  • Develop and refine quality procedures and inspection plans 
  • Support cost reduction and waste reduction initiatives 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with production, engineering, and sales teams 
  • Provide technical support related to materials and product performance 
  • Assist with customer inquiries or issues related to quality 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field 
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or materials engineering 
  • Experience with metal fabrication, steel, or carbide products 
  • Strong understanding of quality control processes and inspection methods 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications 

Preferred

  • Experience in mining, tooling, or heavy manufacturing 
  • Knowledge of heat treatment and welding processes 
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience 
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methods 

Skills

  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis

  • Ability to lead and develop a team 
  • Effective communication across departments 
  • Working knowledge of inspection tools and measurement systems 

 

 

 

Work Environment

  • Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to heat, noise, and moving equipment 
  • Requires use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection 
  • Ability to work on the production floor as needed 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility 
  • Lift up to 23 kg with assistance or equipment 
  • Frequent use of hands for tools and inspection devices
