About the Role:

The Adjunct Faculty in Physical Therapy plays a critical role in educating and mentoring students pursuing careers in physical therapy. This position involves delivering high-quality instruction that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students to excel in clinical environments. The faculty member will contribute to curriculum development, ensuring that course content remains current with advancements in physical therapy practices and research. Additionally, the role requires fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages critical thinking and professional growth. Ultimately, the adjunct faculty member helps shape the next generation of physical therapy professionals by providing expert guidance and promoting evidence-based practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current and unrestricted physical therapy license in the United StatesPractice should. 
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical physical therapy practice. 
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience in physical therapy or related health sciences.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage students in a virtual or in-person classroom setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with curriculum development and academic program assessment.
  • Advanced certifications or specializations in physical therapy (e.g., Orthopedics, Neurology).
  • Experience with online teaching platforms and educational technolog, preferably in the neurology specialties.
  • Research experience or scholarly publications in physical therapy or rehabilitation sciences.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver lectures and laboratory sessions in physical therapy courses according to the academic schedule.
  • Develop and update course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments, to reflect current best practices and research.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, supporting their professional development and clinical readiness.
  • Evaluate student performance through grading assignments, exams, and practical demonstrations, offering constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with full-time faculty and participate in departmental meetings to contribute to program improvement and accreditation processes.

Skills:

The required skills enable the adjunct faculty member to effectively convey complex physical therapy concepts and clinical techniques to students, ensuring comprehension and practical application. Strong communication and interpersonal skills facilitate meaningful interactions with students, fostering an inclusive and motivating learning environment. Organizational skills are essential for managing course materials, grading, and coordinating with other faculty members. Preferred skills such as curriculum development and familiarity with educational technology enhance the ability to innovate teaching methods and adapt to diverse learning modalities. Research and professional engagement skills support the integration of current evidence-based practices into the curriculum, enriching the educational experience.
