POSITION SUMMARY



The Customer Service Representative plays a key role in creating a positive shopping experience for customers, donors, volunteers, and community members at the ReStore. This position is responsible for front-end retail operations including cashier duties, customer assistance, and maintaining organized sales areas. Working as part of a team, the Customer Service Representative supports daily store functions across multiple buildings and helps promote Habitat for Humanity’s mission through outstanding service and engagement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Operate cash registers and accurately process customer purchases, returns, and transactions.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service and assist shoppers with questions regarding merchandise, pricing, store policies, and product locations.
  • Support a positive customer experience by maintaining a welcoming and helpful environment.
  • Assist with restocking merchandise, organizing shelves, and maintaining attractive sales displays.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and staff members to support daily store operations.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization of checkout areas, sales floors, and common spaces.
  • Communicate effectively with team members across both ReStore buildings to ensure efficient customer service and operational support.
  • Assist with customer carry-outs or basic merchandise handling as needed.
  • Promote a safe shopping and working environment by following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and provide support where needed throughout both facilities.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors to support overall ReStore operations.



QUALIFICATIONS 

Preferred qualifications include;

 

  • Previous customer service, cashier, or retail experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, coworkers, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Comfortable handling cash transactions and using point-of-sale systems.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Dependable, team-oriented, and flexible.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout shifts.
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 25 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work between multiple buildings and various retail environments.
  • Ability to work in both heat and cold weather conditions.

  • Commitment to a safe working environment following safety policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • General knowledge of building materials is helpful.
  • Good reasoning ability, mathematical skills and cash handling.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE



  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • In-house training of new cashiers
  • Ability to learn cash register/POS systems
  • Prior customer service or retail sales experience preferred.
  • Cash handling experience preferred.
  • Must complete HFHS training program requirements for your job title.

Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling:  Must be able to stoop or kneel to pick up and/or arrange goods.  75-100%

Grasping/Feeling:  Must be able to carry and handle donations and goods for sale.  75-100%

 

The work environment includes exposure to extreme or varying weather conditions particularly heat, cold, rain, snow or high winds.  Depending on the task, work may be performed indoors or outdoors with a moderate level of noise.  May be exposed to mold, dust, paint, chemicals, cleaning solutions or other substances.
