The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) is seeking applicants for a full-time director in the Governmental Relations DepartmentĀ atĀ IASB’sĀ Springfield office. This position reports to the Associate Executive Director, Governmental Relations.Ā 

Position Summary:Ā The Director of Governmental RelationsĀ is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Association’s statewide advocacy strategy; develops and fosters positive relationships with members of the Illinois General Assembly, school boardĀ members,Ā and administrators; acts in concert with theĀ Governmental RelationsĀ team as a liaison to the Illinois State Board of Education;Ā providesĀ support to the IASB Resolutions Committee; communicates Association member positions, concerns,Ā and potential solutions to the Illinois General Assembly, U.S. Congress,Ā and state and federal regulatory agencies; encourages and facilitates school board involvement in all aspects of the legislative process; provides necessaryĀ informationĀ to give full understanding of proposed legislation and its impact on local school boards,Ā and provides staff support for Association programs and activities as directed.Ā 

Education and or Experience Requirements:Ā The Director of Governmental RelationsĀ positionĀ requires a graduate or undergraduate degree in Political Science, Communications, or related field;Ā andĀ broad understanding of the legislative process in IllinoisĀ and the United States Congress.Ā PreviousĀ experience working as a lobbyist, legislative staff person, or otherĀ positionĀ related to legislative or political involvementĀ is preferred. Knowledge of theĀ IllinoisĀ public education system is desirable.Ā 

The employee must have a valid Illinois drivers’ license and a vehicle; mileage and reasonable travel reimbursement will be provided.Ā Ā Ā 

This position requires the employee to be able to lift, move, and safely handle boxes and materials up to 25 pounds; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; and to be able to see, hear, and speak as necessary to perform the functions of the position.
