Maintenance Technician II

JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician II is a skilled technical position responsible for the independent diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of mechanical and electromechanical equipment, along with metal fabrication and production support within the Genie Recon operation. Positioned as the second level of the Maintenance Technician progression, this role is distinguished by the ability to independently diagnose and resolve common mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical failures; fabricate solutions; interpret blueprints and schematics; and recognize recurring failure modes.

The position performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance; troubleshoots electrical systems up to 480V using working knowledge of AC and DC systems within training and qualifications; performs MIG/TIG and other appropriate welding processes; fabricates and repairs components; and supports continuous improvement of production equipment and processes. Work is performed with moderate supervision; the employee independently resolves routine-to-moderately complex issues and escalates work requiring advanced controls, higher-voltage, or specialized technical expertise (Maintenance Technician III).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently diagnose and repair common mechanical and electromechanical equipment failures.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical and production equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures using appropriate tools, measurements, schematics, and systematic methods.
• Repair, adjust, replace, or rebuild mechanical components including bearings, shafts, couplings, motors, drives, pumps, cylinders, guards, and fixtures.
• Support maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, and other production-support systems within established qualifications.
• Recognize recurring failure modes and communicate them to support reliability improvement.
• Assist with equipment installation, modification, relocation, and startup.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, modifications, repairs, and parts used.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V, applying working knowledge of both AC and DC systems, within training and qualifications.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Diagnose, repair, or replace motors, switches, sensors, relays, contactors, solenoids, and associated control circuits within qualifications.
• Apply safe electrical work practices, including lockout/tagout and appropriate PPE, consistent with NFPA 70E and company procedures.
• Escalate work involving programmable controls (PLC), variable frequency drives (VFD), or systems beyond the Level II qualification.
• Perform MIG, TIG, and other appropriate welding processes on steel, aluminum, and other weldable materials.
• Fabricate, modify, repair, and install metal components, brackets, fixtures, guards, tooling, and production equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, diagrams, schematics, and work instructions.
• Measure, lay out, cut, fit, form, drill, grind, and finish materials to required specifications.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated components for quality, fit, alignment, and structural soundness.
• Operate and maintain welding machines, grinders, saws, drills, plasma cutters, and other fabrication equipment.
• Respond to production equipment issues and provide timely technical support to minimize downtime.
• Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Operations to resolve equipment and fabrication issues.
• Fabricate or modify tooling, fixtures, and equipment to improve safety, quality, productivity, and maintainability.
• Participate in preventive maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
• Support refurbishment and modification of Genie equipment and related production assets.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, work processes, and maintenance practices.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, PPE requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a safe, orderly work area and properly maintain tools and equipment.
• Follow established procedures for welding, hot work, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and chemical handling.
• Follow safe electrical work practices, including energy isolation and appropriate PPE, consistent with NFPA 70E and company procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and safety concerns promptly.
• Perform work in a manner that protects employees, equipment, products, and facilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Typically 2–4 years of industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, fabrication, or closely related manufacturing experience.
• Demonstrated mechanical and electromechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V, with working knowledge of AC and DC systems.
• Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics, ladder, and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to diagnose and repair motors, switches, sensors, relays, contactors, solenoids, and associated control circuits within qualifications.
• Demonstrated proficiency in MIG welding; TIG welding experience preferred.
• Ability to use precision measurement tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
• Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication equipment.
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when additional technical assistance is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Technical/trade-school training or certification in industrial maintenance, electrical, or fabrication.
• Completion of a recognized electrical training or competency program.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience with manufacturing equipment, production machinery, or heavy equipment.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs, TPM, or computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
• Exposure to programmable controls (PLC) and variable frequency drives (VFD).
• Experience fabricating equipment, fixtures, guards, or tooling from drawings or specifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods, and to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment and hand/power tools. The position may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials and equipment consistent with the physical demands of the work and established safety requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing and maintenance environment where the employee may be exposed to welding fumes, heat, noise, dust, oils, lubricants, moving equipment, and other industrial hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment and established safety procedures are required.
