School Principal

The School Principal is responsible for providing supervision and professional leadership to special education/ behavioral health school staff and for oversight of all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the school, including the educational content of the program. Â The principal is also responsible for ensuring that the school programs meet all licensing, accreditation, and academic standards. Â As part of the management team, the principal will provide administrative oversight, curriculum and program development, including scheduling and implementation of MCAS and other standardized testing for students. Â Additional duties include parent conferences, team meetings, hiring and staff retention, and ongoing communications with referral sources and D.E.S.E Â
The Mill Pond Schools, with locations in Springfield and the Berkshires, serve students—kindergarten through age 22—who have social-emotional and/or behavioral challenges, a learning disability, or who may have a diagnosis of high-functioning Autism. We are committed to serving the whole child, including the child’s family. Our goal is to assist students in developing the skills necessary to successfully return to a less-restrictive environment, and, ultimately, to their previous school setting.
School Operating Hours: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in education, special education, or related fieldÂ
- Massachusetts Principal/Administrator license or eligibility
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education or therapeutic setting, with at least 2 years of experience in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, behavioral interventions, and special education law
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
