Position Summary

Product Engineer supports production-facing product engineering activities including work instructions, bill of material (BOM) management, routing accuracy, engineering change implementation, and production documentation. This position exercises independent judgment in maintaining product and process alignment and in resolving product-related production issues.

This role coordinates, guides, trains, and prioritizes work for two Product Engineering Technicians. It requires cross-functional coordination with operations, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing engineering to support manufacturing operations and lean workflow optimization.

Essential Job Functions

  • Create, maintain, and improve BOMs and routings for production accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain production work instructions.
  • Owns engineering changes affecting production and documentation.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of production documentation.
  • Support ERP/MRP system data integrity for product and routing records.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing engineering.
  • Support lean manufacturing flow and workstation optimization.
  • Analyze product-related production issues and identify corrective actions.
  • Improve manufacturing documentation systems and standards.
  • Support configuration control and revision management.
  • Coordinate, guide, train, and prioritize the work of product engineering technicians.
  • Independently maintains engineering records and documentation for BOM structures, configuration methods, engineering implementation strategies.
  • Support implementation of process improvements.
  • Lead open-book management within the product engineering area owning the relevant metrics, coaching technicians to understand them, and tying documentation and configuration decisions to business results.

Supervisory and Coordination Scope

Directs, trains, and prioritizes the work of assigned product engineering technicians, using independent judgment to determine how documentation and configuration work is planned and carried out. The role owns the integrity of its product and process records but does not have independent authority to hire, terminate, or administer formal discipline; such actions are handled with the Engineering Manager and Human Resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, materials, or a related technical field.
  • Three or more years of product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production documentation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage BOMs, routings, and engineering changes using independent judgment.
  • Proficiency reading engineering drawings and production documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in heavy industrial equipment, reconditioning, or MEWP manufacturing.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Infor CloudSuite Industrial / SyteLine preferred).
  • Experience with configuration control and revision management.
  • Experience coordinating or mentoring technician-level staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and documentation judgment, deciding independently how product and process data should be structured and maintained for accuracy.
  • Technical discretion to interpret engineering drawings and production documentation and resolve configuration questions.
  • Working knowledge of MEWP and the Genie S-65, S-85, and S-125 product lines, or the ability to learn them quickly.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement as applied to documentation and workflow.
  • Effective communicator who coordinates change across operations, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing engineering.
  • Owns BOM, routing, and documentation accuracy with a high tolerance for detail and a low tolerance for error.

  • Combination of seated documentation work and time on the floor verifying builds and documentation.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds; team-lift heavier items.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and use hands for tools, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
  • Close and distance vision with depth perception for drawings, gauges, and screens.
  • PPE required in designated areas.

Work Environment

Time is divided between an office or documentation workspace and the production and reconditioning floor, where noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, and temperature variation are present.

Generally a standard schedule, with added hours as engineering changes, launches, and production needs require.

Acknowledgement

This position may require working overtime, including extended hours and additional days, based on production and project demands.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and a pre-employment drug screen.

Employees may perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.


Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM / Overtime may be required based on business needs before or after shift and/or weekends as needed
Fulltime 40 Hours
