Description

The Speech-Language Pathologist will: 

  • Utilize the speech-language pathology process to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care across the inpatient unit, swing bed program, and community-based diagnostic services. 
  • Provide individualized evaluation and treatment for patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders, developing and implementing tailored care plans that promote safety, functional independence, and quality of life.
  • Evaluate patients recovering from surgery, trauma, neurological events, or acute illness, with a particular emphasis on dysphagia management, including the completion and interpretation of modified barium swallow studies for both inpatient and community-referred patients. Treatment may also address speech, language, voice, and cognitive-communication deficits as appropriate to each patient’s needs.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation and medical team to provide direct therapy, patient and family education, and clinical recommendations to support optimal outcomes. 
  • Include thorough documentation of evaluations, treatment sessions, and patient progress, as well as ongoing communication with providers to ensure coordinated care. 
  • Contribute to admission decision-making, discharge planning, and recommendations for continued services or higher levels of care, all while navigating the unique and rewarding challenges of a rural healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Speech Therapy program.
  • Master’s or Clinical Doctorate degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) or equivalent.
  • Experience and/or documented training in dysphagia evaluation and management, including modified barium swallow studies (MBSS).
  • Familiarity with inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, and swing bed models of care.
  • Training and skills in interpreting instrumental swallowing assessments (MBSS) and collaborating with radiology and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Current Vermont licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist. (ASHA CCC-SLP preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Must be in compliance with all immunization requirements as outlined in the Heath Care Worker Immunization Policy.

Salary Range:  The base rate for this position is $36.00 - $46.00 per hour. The hourly range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the position. The rate for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
