Job Title: Staff Accountant
Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting timely, accurate, and efficient preparation of general ledger entries, account reconciliations, budget-to-actual analysis, and financial statements. This position involves working with multiple entities within a complex accounting environment and reports to a Senior Accountant.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, ensuring proper authorization, maintaining control logs, clearing suspense accounts, reconciling accounts, and reviewing reporting packages.
  • Conduct year-end close activities, including posting entries, reconciling activity, preparing audit workpapers, analyzing variances, and responding to audit requests.
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax and regulatory filings for not-for-profit and for-profit entities, including Forms 990, 990-T, and other required filings.
  • Maintain supporting documentation and workpapers for all filings.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue and expense analyses and schedules.
  • Monitor and process cost allocations across departments, including preparation of related journal entries and intercompany charges.
  • Prepare and post intercompany billings and reconciliations; coordinate with other accountants to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare miscellaneous billings, maintain sub-ledgers, monitor outstanding balances, and reconcile cash receipts.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements; perform cash proofs and reconcile cash and investment accounts.
  • Monitor prepaid accounts and ensure appropriate amortization and coordination with Accounts Payable.
  • Prepare and maintain accounts receivable reserve models and supporting analysis.
  • Assist with monthly health and welfare benefit trust reporting and annual benefit trust audits, including financial statements and tax filings.
  • Support accounting system testing across multiple modules.
  • Process unclaimed property filings.
  • Support insurance-related accounting activities and reimbursement requests.
  • Review capital purchases and maintain depreciation and amortization schedules.
  • Maintain software inventory and post related accounting activity.
  • Process system interfaces and perform related reconciliations.
  • Prepare and reconcile grants management activity and reporting.
  • Provide accounting support and respond to inquiries from internal stakeholders as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Strong experience in general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
  • Proficiency in intercompany accounting, billings, and reconciliations.
  • Experience with regulatory, tax, and audit support, especially in healthcare or non-profit settings.
  • Competency in accounts payable, general accounting, accounts receivable, journal entry, and financial accounting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience required; 7 years preferred.
  • Associate’s Degree required.
  • Experience in audit preparation and tax accounting is advantageous.

This is a hybrid position with 3 days on-site and 2 days remote. The role is based in Springfield, MA, offering an opportunity to join a large healthcare organization with significant room for career growth.
