The Durable Medical Equipment Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assisting activities within the Springfield Clinic Sleep DME area to provide durable medical equipment and supply to sleep therapy patients, with a focus on quality, access, and effectiveness.

Job Relationships
Reports to the Operations Manager

Principal Responsibilities
Process equipment returns and track rental authorizations.
Coordinate necessary equipment repairs, including provision of loaner equipment.
Maintain authorizations, including re-authorization tracking.
Bill and reconcile billing for all DME equipment and supplies.
Responsible for all invoices, receipts, and deposits maintained on equipment/patient database.
Responsible for maintaining and reconciling cash receipts.
Provide input to providers about compliance and effectiveness of prescribed equipment.
Dispense prescribed equipment and provide all education necessary for patient use, including set-up, machine/equipment features, routine use, troubleshooting, care and cleaning, infection control and maintenance of all provided supplies and equipment.
Document and maintain verification of patient training and notifies provider of completion.
Provide a patient follow-up call within 48 hours to evaluate satisfaction and track usage and maintain records of each call.
Provide receipt of delivered equipment and documentation in patient’s record.
Notify provider of any issues with equipment availability or delays within 5 business days of receipt of the order and work with provider to find alternate products for the patient, as needed.
Accept co-pays and deposits for equipment.
Assist in maintenance of patient remind and re-supply process.
Alter patient equipment and supplies as prescribed by provider.
Notify patient of manufactory’s recall within 90 days of recall notification.
Maintain records of patient compliance, as provided by physician or from equipment download records.
Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.
Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
Two (2) years minimum experience in Durable Medical Equipment (DME), managed care or home health care environment.
Annual education obtained in Billing and Coding Processes.  
Sleep preferred but not necessary.
Experience with HCPCS, CPT and ICD9-10 coding.
Knowledge and experience with DME/medical supplies with commercial insurance guidelines.

Licenses/Certificates
Respiratory Therapist certification (CRT)
CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be efficient and have the ability to multi-task deadlines.
Exceptional verbal communication and telephone etiquette skills.
Excellent organizational skills and proficiency with computer programs.
Proven skills, knowledge base, and judgment necessary for independent decision making.

Working Environment
Medical office environment.
Will perform repetitive had motions for typing and calibrating equipment.
Able to stand for long periods of time.
Able to push or pull objects weighing at least 100 lbs.
