 Driver (CDL Class B)

FLSA: Non-Exempt, Part-Time, Variable hours each week

Position Summary

YWCA York is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Driver to transport children enrolled in the School Age Child Care (SACC) Program to and from designated school locations. The School Bus Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe, timely, and professional transportation of children while maintaining compliance with all applicable traffic laws, licensing requirements, and YWCA York policies. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely transport children enrolled in the SACC Program to and from school and program locations.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transportation.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle and transportation records as required.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with YWCA staff, parents/guardians, and school personnel as needed.
  • Assist with transportation for special events and field trips as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional and positive demeanor while representing YWCA York.
  • Ensure appropriate music, language, and communication style for children at all times that children are present. 

Schedule

This is a part-time, school-year position with a split-shift schedule.

Typical Hours-Times Subject to Change: 

  • Morning Route: 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
  • Afternoon Route: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Additional hours may be required:

  • On school half-days (approximately beginning at 11:00 a.m.)
  • For field trips, special program activities, and events 
  • As operational needs require

The position follows the school calendar and is expected to run from the beginning of the school year, approximately late August through approximately through mid to late June.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class B Driver's License with appropriate endorsements.
  • Clear driving record and ability to meet insurability requirements.
  • Ability to pass all required background clearances and screenings.
  • Strong commitment to safety and working with children.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain regular attendance.
  • Flexibility to accommodate schedule changes and transportation needs.
  • Must be at least 21 years old. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous school bus, shuttle bus, or passenger transportation experience strongly preferred.
  • Former school bus drivers are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience transporting children is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely operate a bus for extended periods.
  • Ability to enter and exit the vehicle multiple times throughout the workday.
  • Ability to assist in emergency situations as necessary.
