WHAT IS SUMMER YOUTH: 

The Summer Youth Work Experience (SYWE) program provides students with disabilities, ages 15-21, with valuable opportunities to explore various career pathways through supervised, real-world work experiences. SYWE is designed to support students who are developing foundational work skills, helping them enhance their abilities and gain insight into professional environments. Participants will engage in work for approximately 12 to 20 hours per week over a five-week period. The primary objective of the program is to prepare students for competitive employment by offering paid, community-based work experiences that fosters skill development and confidence.

IMPORTANT DATES

Mandatory Orientation: May 11th- May14th, 2026 (Make up dates will be provided if needed) 

Summer Youth Program: June 1st, 2026, and will end Mid-Late August 2026

Duties & Responsibilities

The list of essential functions provided herein is intended to serve as a general overview of the typical responsibilities associated with this classification. Absence of a particular function from this list shall not restrict management from assigning additional duties that are consistent with the role and responsibilities of the position. 

  • Develop an individualized service plan that addresses trainee barriers and meet trainee requirements to become independent. 
  • Monitor and teach appropriate work-related skills and behaviors.
  • Identify employer or trainee concerns and resolve potential problems.
  • Ensure that supervisor is updated verbally, or in writing, on all activities and is kept informed of any related issues.
  • Facilitate the safe transportation of trainees to and from designated sites.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate notes and report logs on trainee’s progress and activities throughout their program. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Typical Working Conditions

Summer Youth coaches typically work in outdoor or mixed indoor and outdoor settings, often engaging in dynamic, energetic environments. Adaptable to a range of weather conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.

Qualifications: (Minimum Requirements)

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Valid Drivers License and Insurable. 
  • Must be willing to undergo and successfully pass a comprehensive background screening. 
  • Must attend mandatory staff meeting orientation.
  • Ability to function independently. 
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions.
