Responsibilities

 

The Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technician provides hands-on support to resolve instrumentation and electrical problems as they occur.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Understand permit procedures (general, hot and entry)
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair chemical plant instrumentation and equipment including low and high voltages, valves, transmitters, controllers and Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Investigate equipment failures to determine root cause and recommend and implement appropriate solutions to eliminate or reduce failures
  • Assist in the review, development and implementation of site preventative maintenance programs
  • Participate in the planning and execution of chemical plant turnarounds
  • Take callouts and work turn-around to keep plant operating at present or full rates
  • Keep abreast of new methodologies, work practices, software and technology for application and use within the plant
  • Fill out completions form on scheduled orders and give information to Scheduler so this person can maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for the maintenance group
  • Assist in entering and completing management of change (MOCs)
  • Enter notification as work is noticed to maintain a great functional plant

 

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical degree or certification highly recommended
  • Must have previous experience in a chemical, petrochemical or related manufacturing environment
  • A strong background in control and instrumentation, including valves, transmitters, controllers and DCS systems
  • Experience with electronic and digital process control systems, related loop equipment, electric motors, high voltage equipment, as well as control circuitry
  • Familiarity with methods of level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement, as well as knowledge relating to pneumatic and electronic instrumentation
  • Have practical knowledge relating to electrical distribution, motors and motor control, conduit and wiring practices, lighting and grounding as well as familiarity with the National Electrical Code (particularly for hazardous locations)
  • Process analyzer experience a plus
  • Basic understanding of process operation (start-up, shutdown, flows and be able to set priorities)
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Must complete all required training per the St. Gabriel Maintenance Department Training Schedule
  • Be a proactive safety leader; set and maintain high safety standards

 

Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Work outside in environmental conditions, which at times include extreme heat or cold
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PPE
  • Lift 50 pounds floor to waist; push and pull 50 pounds horizontally
  • Carry 20 pounds while walking
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Extend arms through normal range of motion while standing and squatting
  • Ability to serve on emergency response team/fire brigade
