Rural Services Coordinator

Organization: Dorchester Seniors

Status: Full-Time

Hours: Tuesday-Thursday 8am-7pm and Friday 8am-2pm (Saturday events: as needed with notice)

 

Position Summary

The Rural Services Coordinator connects rural older adults to services, resources, and community support. The role splits between direct client transportation (two days per week) and community outreach and volunteer recruitment (two days per week). This position requires someone equally comfortable behind the wheel and at a community table.

Key Responsibilities

Client Transportation (2 days/week)

  • Drive clients to and from medical appointments, pharmacy pickups, and essential errands
  • Accompany clients into appointments as needed to assist with communication or paperwork
  • Maintain a transportation schedule and complete required mileage and service logs
  • Report any changes in client health, safety, or living conditions to the care team

Community Outreach

  • Build relationships with rural residents, faith communities, local businesses, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to increase awareness of Dorchester Seniors’ programs
  • Conduct outreach at community events, senior centers, churches, and other gathering places to identify and engage isolated or underserved older adults
  • Connect clients and families to benefits, programs, and local resources (Medicare, SNAP, utility assistance, etc.)
  • Represent Dorchester Seniors at community meetings and collaborative tables

Volunteer Recruitment & Support

  • Recruit volunteers from the communities served, particularly in rural areas
  • Assist with volunteer screening, onboarding, and placement
  • Help coordinate volunteers supporting transportation, companionship, meal delivery, and other programs
  • Support volunteer retention through regular communication and recognition

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, communications, or related field preferred
  • Experience in community outreach, social services, or volunteer coordination
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; comfortable driving an agency vehicle
  • Strong relationship-building skills; trusted and effective with rural, diverse populations

Self-directed with the ability to manage a varied weekly schedule
