This position is responsible for creating and delivering engaging programs and classes, acting as an ambassador at community events, and serving on system-wide committees. The Adult Specialist is someone who is organized, detail-oriented and thrives in both independent and collaborative work environments. The role requires someone who can manage numerous projects and competing deadlines. 



In this role you will:

  • Create and implement programs for a diverse community.

  • Provide assistance in other areas of the location, including but not limited to checking out materials to customers and offering support to customers using library equipment, such as computers for tasks such as completing online applications, editing resumes, and addressing email concerns.

  • Assume supervisory duties of the Department or Library as needed, which may include supervision of adult volunteers.

  • Create and maintain displays of library materials.

  • Serve as a Notary Public and Passport Acceptance Agent.


You will need to be:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and able to build relationships at all levels.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.

  • Comfortable with presenting  and engaging with varying audiences.

  • Passionate about the mission of public libraries and making a difference in our community.

  • Able to use and learn new technology as the Library continues to evolve.


You will need to have:

  • At least one year of customer-related experience, program-related experience, or an associate’s degree.

  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Comfort using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.

Schedule:

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 11:30 am - 8:15 pm; Fridays and Saturdays 8:45 am - 5:15 pm. Hours subject to change.


About Carpenter Library:

  • A Carnegie Library originally built in 1927, Carpenter Library has been renovated and expanded at its original location

  • Offers public services on one floor

  • Spaces include a computer lab, auditorium, 4 quiet rooms, and mezzanine area


About the neighborhood:

Carpenter Library has been serving south-city residents for over 99 years. The branch is located at the end of the South Grand ‘international district’ and serves a diverse population, including the neighborhoods of Tower Grove East, Tower Grove South, Benton Park, Benton Park West, and Dutchtown.
