Job Summary
The Director of Facilities is responsible for the overall maintenance, operations, preservation, and security of the Cathedral Basilica campus, including all buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, and associated properties. This role ensures that the Cathedral remains a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for worship, ministry, cultural events, and visitors. The Director serves as a key steward of the Cathedral's historic architecture and works collaboratively with clergy, staff, contractors, and volunteers to support the mission of the Church through excellent facility management.
Job Description
- Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of all Cathedral Basilica facilities, grounds, and related properties.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for building systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Manage facility projects, including renovations, repairs, capital improvements, and historic preservation efforts.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure quality work and compliance with contractual requirements.
- Monitor and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, fire safety, and other building systems.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, diocesan, and safety regulations.
- Develop, administer, and monitor facility budgets, including maintenance, operating, and capital expenditures.
- Establish and maintain emergency preparedness and security procedures for the Cathedral campus.
- Recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate facilities staff and volunteers as assigned.
- Coordinate facility support for liturgies, parish events, concerts, cultural programs, and special events.
- Maintain accurate records related to maintenance activities, inspections, warranties, and facility assets.
- Work closely with the Rector, clergy, parish staff, and committees to identify and address facility needs.
- Promote a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for parishioners, visitors, staff, and volunteers.
- Support the preservation and stewardship of the Cathedral Basilica's historic buildings, artwork, and grounds.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in facilities management, operations, building maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience managing large or historic facilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and security systems.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, contractors, and facility projects.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Ability to respond to facility emergencies outside of regular business hours as needed.
- Proficiency with computer systems and facility management software.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
