Summary/Objective

Actively monitor the issues occurring in and around the shelter facility and Community Campus, including the building premise. When safety concerns for any clients, staff or guests occur, engage in de-escalation practices and a return to safe/secure status, in coordination with the Safety & Training Specialist, fellow staff and possibly authorities when necessary. Assist in overseeing the daily operation of the Emergency Shelter and housing programs located in the Campus, ensuring that activities are carried out in a safe, professional manner in safe, trauma-informed, well-maintained facilities. 


We operate 24/7, 365 days a year, with full-time openings across all shifts and weekends, currently prioritizing 2nd and 3rd shifts while welcoming 1st-shift candidates.


Essential Functions:

  •  Ability to serve clients with dignity and respect, in a non-judgmental way. Peter & Paul does not discriminate based on race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. and expects all employees to do the same.
  •  Attend all regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  •  Willingness to take a Trauma Informed approach to addressing clients. 
  •  Assist in tracking all outcomes according to good practice standards/funder requirements. 
  •  Assist in overseeing volunteers.
  •  Monitor meal hall while meals are being served.
  •  Perform minor secretarial tasks, including but not limited to answering phone(s), answering door(s), filing, photocopying, responding to emails, maintaining the front desk emergency log, etc.
  •  Complete or attend all staff trainings.
  •  Provide a non-bias written record of client behaviors and situations for each shift worked, including client violations and staff actions taken.
  •  Ensure cleanliness and good order of office and facilities.
  •  Ensure client compliance with program policies and procedures. 
  •  Assist in receiving and storing in-kind donations.
  •  Link clients with linens, hygiene supplies, and other stock supplies as requested by clients or staff, as well as outside resources. 
  •  Ensure avenues of egress for all clients at all times.
  •  Regular attendance and punctuality are required to perform this job effectively.
  •  Monitor CCTV Surveillance cameras as needed.
  •  Assist licensed security personnel in their tasks as necessary.
  •  Perform other duties as requested by the Lead Shelter Monitor or as dictated by circumstances of growth and/or planning. 
  •  Use all PPCS required database systems as required by each specific program.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Two years’ experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, mental illness
  • Experience providing client support, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, housing stabilization, or community-based services preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to effectively engage diverse populations with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during crises and emergencies.
  • Ability to accurately document client interactions, incidents, and service activities.
