Sonic Summary

info
  • AION is seeking a Scientist to lead cell culture and conduct experiments on custom microscopy platforms as part of their mission to control aging through biomedical technology.
  • The ideal candidate should have deep hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and strong microscopy skills, including sample preparation and quantitative analysis.
  • Collaboration with engineers to debug and iterate on experimental workflows is essential, and familiarity with coding for imaging sequences is a plus.
  • The position requires a mechanical inclination and a working understanding of optical stacks, though optical engineering expertise is not mandatory.
  • The role is based in St. Louis, MO, and offers equity for the right candidate, with a preference for individuals with relevant experience.

At AION, we’re building sci-fi medical devices.

Our mission is to bring aging under full biomedical control. We believe this can be achieved through closed-loop hardware that reads and writes bioelectric states in living tissue using electromagnetic and acoustic fields – a control layer for cell reprogramming that chemistry and gene therapy fundamentally cannot provide.

We're looking for a cracked scientist to own cell culture and run experiments on custom microscopy platforms.

The role

As a Scientist at AION, you will:

  • Own cell experiments end to end: cell culture, experimental design, sample preparation, imaging, data collection, analysis, and iteration

  • Run ultrasound and magnetic-field experiments on custom microscope platforms

  • Work directly with engineers to debug and rapidly iterate microscopes, fixtures, sample environments, and experimental workflows

  • Build the controls, documentation, and repeatability needed to turn one-off results into reliable experimental systems

You

We value mission alignment, integrity, and ambition over pedigree.

  • Deep hands-on mammalian cell culture experience and comfortable owning cultures independently

  • Strong microscopy experience, including sample preparation, image acquisition, and quantitative analysis

  • Comfortable working side by side with mechanical & electrical engineers; comfortable using coding agents to develop imaging and cell-stimulation sequences

  • Mechanically inclined and able to reason about fixtures, alignment, motion, sample handling, and system tradeoffs

  • Working understanding of optical stacks: illumination, objectives, filters, cameras, and the image path; optical engineering expertise is not required

  • Experience with ultrasonics, acoustofluidics, magnetic-field biology, bioelectromagnetics, or custom instrumentation is a plus, not a requirement
