Job DetailsJob Location: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum - St. Michaels, MD 21663Position Type: Part TimeSalary Range: $19.50 - $19.50 HourlyThe Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) explores and preserves the history, environment and culture of the Chesapeake Bay region, and makes this resource accessible to all. As an educational institution, staff carries out CBMM’s mission, goals and vision, working individually and collaboratively to encourage the public’s access to our collections, programs, and resources.   SUMMARY DESCRIPTION  The School‐Age Educator is instrumental in facilitating the Education Department's programs for PK‐12 students, promoting CBMM’s mission through high‐quality educational programming. CBMM is committed to doubling the number of school children it serves annually, and the School‐Age Educator plays a vital role by fostering a positive learning environment for all school‐age visitors.  PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES  Deliver school‐age programs at CBMM and in classrooms.  Greet and orient school groups to campus to facilitate positive learning experiences.  Assist with school‐age outreach initiatives including teacher workshops and Educator Open Houses.  Assist with other children’s programming, including classes, camps, and CBMM festivals, as needed.  This position is part‐time, hourly, and  based on the demand for CBMM school‐age programs. Most programs will take place during the school day, Monday through Friday.   All staff of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is expected to be available to work a flexible schedule.   QualificationsKEY ATTRIBUTES  Enthusiastic, adaptable, and effective teacher who enjoys working with children from preschool to high school.  Experience teaching children of various ages in formal or informal learning environments.  Passion for the Chesapeake Bay and its people.  Degree in education, museum studies, history, environmental science, or related field desirable.  Familiarity with formal and informal learning theory, Common Core and Maryland State Curriculum standards preferred.  Ability to foster positive work relationships with CBMM staff, superiors, and volunteers, and problem solve and respond positively and calmly to program changes.  Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.  Physical ability to work with students on CBMM’s 18‐acre campus, exhibits, boats, and docks, in varied weather conditions.
