Staff Accountant

The team at GA Foods has an outstanding opportunity for a Staff Accountant. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and team player with excellent analytical and strong communication skills. The position requires a quick learner who takes ownership of their work, that can troubleshoot/problem solve independently, and is eager to make improvements and create efficiencies. The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled. They also analyze financial results to identify corrective actions and support the preparation of accurate financial statements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accurately prepare month-end close journal entries with adequate supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including appropriate identification and resolution of any reconciling items
  • Compile expense allocations from various departments and ensure accurate account coding
  • Maintain fixed assets supporting schedules
  • Review financial activity to identify trends, anomalies, and necessary reclasses
  • Respond to P&L inquiries received from departmental leaders
  • Perform sales & use tax calculations and complete online filings
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual physical inventory process
  • Support fulfillment of requests received from external auditors
  • Assist with special projects as requested by the Controller
  • Other tasks or responsibilities assigned by leadership

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or a combination of education and experience- required
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional accounting experience - required
  • Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Strong mathematical, accounting, and analytical skills, with demonstrated critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, and work in an organized, detailed manner
  • Process-oriented with strong time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and experience with accounting software (MS NAV experience is a plus)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or cost accounting experience - preferred

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a desk-bound role with typical office noise; however, frequent movement throughout the office is required. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking are daily activities. Some bending and filing may be required (<10% of the time). This would require the ability to lift files (<10 lbs.), open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Over 2/3 of Time: See; Sit; Use hands to finger/handle/feel; Talk or Hear.

Position Type:

This is a full-time, non-exempt-level position based at GA Foods headquarters. This role requires on site presence and may be eligible for hybrid opportunity after the probationary period.
