The Rappahannock Regional Jail is seeking an LPN to perform intermediate skilled human support work assisting in the care and treatment of patients detained in the regional Jail, preparing and dispensing injections, immunizations, and medications, collecting medical data, and related work as apparent or assigned.

 

This position works a permanent 12 hour night shift 5:45 pm – 6:00 am

 

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

 

  • Assist the physician or physician’s assistant with sick call clinic; review and assess patients; prepare medical histories.


  • Provide nursing care to patients in the facility infirmary and crisis cells; obtain health history; assess physical and psychological dimensions of patients.


  • Conduct infirmary rounds for patients housed in medical cells.


  • Enter data and maintain patient’s confidential medical records, utilizing the electronic medical administration system.


  • Administer medication to patients; discuss patient's condition with physician; order medication; prepare, dispense and chart medication.


  • Confer with health care agencies, dentists, and other agencies involved in prescribing medications for patients.


  • Perform standard clinical tasks such as obtaining blood pressures, temperatures, drawing blood for laboratory testing; assess conditions; dispense prescriptions.


  • Conduct inventory of medical supplies; order from vendors as needed or required.


  • Assist in training and mentoring new employees as they rotate through the infirmary. 


Required Qualifications: 

  • Associates/Technical degree and moderate experience in professional practical nursing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Possession of Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professionals certification upon hire.


  • Possession of American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification upon hire.


  • Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications for the position established by the Authority and the Commonwealth of Virginia.


  • Valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.



Applicant must pass a criminal background, Drug Test, DMV check and polygraph examination.
