MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Leadership and Patient Care Excellence
• Responsible for all the duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Serves as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for respiratory therapists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Supports evidence based respiratory care practices across critical care, emergency, medical surgical, procedural, and specialty care areas.
• Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborates with providers to optimize patient outcomes.
• Assist with managing complex respiratory care cases and facilitates timely intervention when needed.
• Promotes compliance with respiratory care protocols, clinical pathways, and best practices.
Quality, Safety and Regulatory Compliance
• Assists with quality improvement initiatives and monitors key performance indicators.
• Supports readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, DPH, and other regulatory surveys.
• Assists with development, implementation, and review of respiratory care policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
• Assists in tracking department quality metrics, including ventilator management measures, patient satisfaction indicators, and clinical outcomes.
Staff Education and Professional Development
• Assists in coordinating orientation, onboarding, and competency validation for new respiratory care staff.
• Assists in planning and delivering department education programs and annual competency assessments.
• Identifies educational opportunities and supports professional growth.
• Serves as mentor and coach to respiratory therapists, promoting accountability, engagement, and career development.
Operational Coordination
• Supports daily department operations, staffing coordination, and workflow management.
• Assists in managing staffing resources to ensure safe and efficient patient coverage.
• Collaborates with departmental leadership regarding equipment management, preventative maintenance, and supply utilization.
• Monitors productivity and assists with process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.Â
• Participates in implementation of new respiratory care technologies, documentation systems, and patient care programs.
Collaboration & Communication
• Promotes effective communication and teamwork across all clinical departments.
• Participates in hospital committees, task forces, and quality councils as assigned.
• Fosters a culture of professionalism, accountability, safety, and service excellence.

COMPETENCIES AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum 1 year of Critical Care clinical respiratory care experience.
• Previous experience as a lead therapist, charge therapist, clinical educator, or coordinator preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, project management, team development, and conflict resolution experience preferred.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient with Epic electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced acute care setting.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (INCLUDE LICENSE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION):
• Associate Degree in respiratory therapy required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Current Connecticut State license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• Basic life support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification.Â
• Pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certification.Â
• Neonatal resuscitation program (NRP) certification.Â
