Job DescriptionÂ
The Systems Engineering department is responsible for:Â
1.Projects:The design, installation, commissioning, documentation, and hand-over to Operations of all new systems and services established within the facilityÂ
2.Major Change:The planning and execution of major technical changes and system upgrades of existing systems and services within the facilityÂ
3.Escalation:The escalation of significant technical issues within the facility to subject matter experts within the Systems Engineering group for resolution (i.e. Tier-3 support)Â
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the installation, test, and Tier-3 engineering support of video and audio acquisition, playout, signal processing, and control equipment as may be applicable to the facility in which they are based. Equipment encountered in this position includes, but is not limited to, automation systems, routers, video servers, signal processing cards, video and audio monitoring equipment, IP networking equipment and other ancillary broadcast equipment.Â
Therefore, the Systems Engineer will, under the guidance and direction of their designated line manager, perform the following duties with respect to the company owned systems.Â
•  Possess or develop a deep understanding of the broadcast systems within the facility in which he/she is basedÂ
•  Work with vendors and colleagues in the design and implementation of new systems including:Â
O  Following industry best practices to ensure the long-term system stability and up-timeÂ
O  Producing installation drawings for wiring againstÂ
O  Commissioning of system in readiness for useÂ
O  Producing as-built documentation of systems, configurations, and maintenance requirementsÂ
O  Provide training to shift Engineers to enable them to provide Tier-2 supportÂ
O  Delivering new systems on time, on budget, and to specÂ
•  Plan and execute major system changes including:Â
O  Planning all changes in accordance with the company Change Management processÂ
O  Implementation of the changes inside pre-arranged maintenance windowsÂ
O  Following the company SOP’s during all change activities Â
O  Close liaison with Operations to ensure flawless operation though all change activitiesÂ
O  Updating documentation and drawings as required to maintain the company engineering recordsÂ
•  Provide Tier-3 support including:Â
O  Diagnosis of faults for root cause analysis including the analyzing of system logsÂ
O  Undertaking corrective maintenance as necessary to restore systems to full working orderÂ
O  Undertaking preventative maintenance to ensure systems are fully operational 24x7Â
O  Undertaking system upgrades to ensure systems are operating under the manufacturer recommended software and firmware releasesÂ
O  Performing equipment adjustment and tuning to ensure the systems are operating to their correct technical specificationsÂ
O  Raising tickets with vendors and tracking those tickets to final closureÂ
•  Provide users and clients with professional, courteous, and timely technical supportÂ
•  To proactively work to address issues on projects or with the broadcast systemsÂ
•  Other duties as assignedÂ
RequirementsÂ
A Systems Engineer should have at least two years of experience in a Systems Engineer role (or equivalent if joining from another company), and to have installed and maintained broadcast equipment and systems the same as or similar to those in the hiring facility.Â
It would be preferred that the candidate has experience of:Â
•  Working with Broadcast automation, including iTX, Morpheus, Morpheus ICE, ADC, and/or VersioÂ
•  Working with broadcast routing systemsÂ
•  Working with broadcast ingest, media processing, and storage systemsÂ
•  Working with other common broadcast equipmentÂ
And has:Â
•  A deep understanding of broadcast play-out workflows (Central Casting and/or Multi-Channel play-out)Â
•  A working knowledge of networking and IP technologiesÂ
•  Experience in planning and executing small and medium sized broadcast projectsÂ
The candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:Â
•  Technical knowledge of digital video and audio formatsÂ
•  Technical knowledge of a variety of broadcast equipment and systemsÂ
•  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, and AutoCADÂ
The candidate should have the following skills and qualifications:Â
•  A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. electronic engineering or electrical engineering) would be preferredÂ
•  Cisco networking certificationÂ
