Responsibilities
Plan and deliver patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and following all established standards of practice within State and Federal guidelines. The EP/Angio-Nurse Specialist will be proficient in patient assessment and Pre/Intra/Post care particular to the Electrophysiology patient and be competent in the management of patients in the Cardiovascular Suite, which included the the cath lab and vascular interventional radiology population. When assigned the charge role the EP/Angio-Nurse Specialist will coordinate the operating schedule and supervise unit activities. In addition he/she will provide supervision of non-RN personnel.
- The EP technologist will assist with procedures, scheduling, training, consistent with institutional policy and procedure, evidence based medicine and industry standards.
- Will assist with management of all EP inventories, including devices and disposable supplies. He/She will assist with billing and charging for supplies and maintaining an accurate inventory. The Electrophysiology Technologist will be responsible for performing daily Quality Assurance checks on Radiographic, Hemodynamic, and a full range of EP equipment.
- Will demonstrate a sound knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias, EP monitoring system including the stimulator, ablator, 3D mapping systems, and X-ray equipment.
- Cognizant of emergency situations, recognizes lethal arrhythmias and other complications, capable of assisting the team in these situations.
- Will demonstrate in depth knowledge and critical skills of the instrumentation during EP, and invasive cardiac procedures and assist the Cardiologist and team utilizing established aseptic and sterile technique. Proper disposal of all sharps and Biohazard Materials
- Will provide radiation safety to all who enter. Will maintain lead apron and radiation badge detection quality assurance program. Maintains environment integrity for a sanitary, cost effective, and time efficient Cardiac Lab.
- Will demonstrate the ability to maintain inventory par levels and avoid critical lows. Will contact Lead Tech or Cardiac Lab Manager for assistance with unfamiliar orders, but will be aware of critical low.
- Will demonstrate in depth knowledge of all Radiology and EP equipment in the EP/Cardiac Lab with ability to troubleshoot problems and place a service call. Will Maintain records for service of all equipment. Will insure that all medical records are accurately labeled and stored.
- Will demonstrate knowledge of inventory and supply ordering system, to accurately enter patient procedure and equipment charges and reorder supplies.
- Competent in the use of the unit's radiology, 3-D mapping and ablation equipment, interventional cardiology equipment, the hemodynamic monitoring system and storage of patient images in the medical record system.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Valid license as Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
BCLS and ACLS required
Minium 2 year's experience in EP/Cath Lab/OR or other sterile procedure area
- Hands on knowledge of IVUS/OCT, Impella, CardioLab, 3D mapping systems (Carto and/or St Jude) and ablation equipment
