The Village at Penn State, one of the area's premier independent living communities in State College, PA, is seeking a full-time Scratch Baker/Cook to join our culinary team.

If you have baking experience—or you're a cook with a passion and desire to learn the art of scratch baking—we'd love to hear from you! This unique dual-role position offers the opportunity to showcase your creativity while preparing delicious baked goods from scratch for our residents, along with supporting meal production and line cooking as needed.

 

What You'll Do

Your primary focus will be scratch baking, with additional responsibilities in food preparation and meal service.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare fresh baked goods from scratch, along with menu items for residents, guests, and staff.
  • Assist with food production and line cooking as needed.
  • Follow Food Production Sheets, standardized recipes, and modified diets as approved by the Consulting Dietitian.
  • Serve meals while maintaining portion control and presentation standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized work area.
  • Properly store, label, and rotate food and supplies.
  • Assist with utility and kitchen support duties as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing in-service education and training.

 

Schedule

Full-time

9:00am - 5:00pm / 11:00am-7:00pm

 

Qualifications

  • Previous baking experience is preferred, but we welcome candidates with strong cooking experience and a genuine interest in learning scratch baking.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, follow written and verbal instructions, and perform basic recipe calculations.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen equipment, sanitation practices, and safe food handling.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic or modified diets is a plus.
