The assistant manager will assist the store manager in managing store and yard operations to optimize sales and profitability while satisfying the needs of the employees and customers. Supervisory Responsibilities include directly supervising 1 – 50 employees, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff or assisting management with this process, coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day workflow of team members within the store, and assisting the manager with addressing employee concerns, conflicts, and personnel actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Duties/Responsibilities include assisting with developing monthly, quarterly, and annual plans with the store manager to meet company goals for operations and profitability; analyzing reports to monitor sales, gross profit, and inventory activity; ensuring exceptional customer experience; resolving customer complaints; assisting customers with product questions and purchases; directing and motivating employees; overseeing employee training; managing employees, work schedules, assets, and inventory; making recommendations to improve productivity and service quality; monitoring inventory and merchandise levels; overseeing store and yard operations; ensuring security measures; communicating with credit and store manager on credit issues; assisting with market penetration, pricing, and product recommendations; maintaining compliance with control and audit systems; compiling records and reports; assuring safety and well-being of employees, customers, and suppliers; completing daily inspection reports on fleet assets; modeling compliance with company policies and culture; opening and closing the store; responding to after-hours alarm calls; attending store meetings and management programs; and performing other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities include ability to prioritize tasks, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, MAC21, and related software, excellent time management skills, forklift certification, current driver’s license and auto liability insurance, and occasional overnight travel. Education and Experience preferred include a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, construction science, or equivalent, retail lumber supply experience, and successful completion of the company’s management training program. Physical Requirements include prolonged periods of standing and walking, ability to traverse store, yard, and job sites, ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds, ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and respond during closed hours in emergencies, and ability to work in various weather conditions.
