Job DetailsJob Location: Sterling Heights, MI 48314Salary Range: $21.00Lakeshore Ear, Nose and Throat is seeing a surgical scheduler to join our team. This position will work at our location in Sterling Heights. This is a full time, in person position and the hours are typically 8 am - 5 pm.    Some of the work this position does: • Works with physician offices to gather information needed to schedule surgeries consistent with hospital and insurance guidelines while accommodating physician requests, patient needs, and health plan requirements. • Upon receiving the physician’s boarding slip, reviews for and obtains additional required information. Communicates pertinent information to the physician and patient. • Verifies patient’s current insurance and obtains authorizations for surgery from the patient’s health plan as needed. • Coordinates pre-surgical clearance with the patient’s primary care physician or cardiologist and informs the patient of any additional pre-surgery instructions. • Coordinates surgery scheduling with hospital surgical boarders. • May reschedule surgeries as needed to accommodate emergencies or other unanticipated events. • Determines the patient’s financial responsibility for the surgery. • Collects a deposit on the deductible amount anticipated to be remaining on the day of surgery and the entire amount for procedures that are not covered by the patient’s insurance at least one week before the surgery. • Performs the duties of an Assistant Office Operations as assigned. • Other duties as assigned. Skills: • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Friendly and personable. • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and/or Office 365. • Ability to use email and electronic calendars. • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. • Ability to apply principles of logic to a wide range of practical problems. • Ability to work in a stressful environment. Supervisory Responsibilities: • NA Personal Protective Equipment: • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Physical Demands: • Sit and stand for extended periods of time. • Talk or hear for extended periods of time. • Dexterity of hands and fingers in order to operate Education: • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: • Strong customer service experience. • Experience working in a medical office or setting preferred. • Experience with electronic medical records preferred Licensure / Certification / Registration: • None
