Diesel Truck Mechanic - II

Overview

Performs commercial vehicle maintenance and repairs on diesel engines and fleet vehicles with increasing responsibility based on experience. Supports fleet maintenance operations through preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work while developing technical skills and knowledge. Works with moderate independence, contributing technical expertise and mentoring entry-level diesel mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostic work on diesel engines, commercial vehicles, and fleet equipment
• Conduct preventive maintenance services, oil changes, brake repairs, and system inspections
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Accurately document repair work, inspections, and parts usage
• Ensure compliance with DOT and OSHA safety standards
• Mentor and assist entry-level mechanics with skills development
• Support maintenance operations by coordinating with Parts Administrator and Maintenance Supervisor
• Keep tools and work areas organized and ready for use
• Support level II technicians with complex repairs, learning advanced diagnostic techniques, and developing technical expertise.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical training in automotive or diesel technology preferred
• 3–7 years of progressively responsible maintenance or mechanical experience
• Certificates Required: Valid Driver’s License, DOT Physical Card
• Certificates Preferred: CDL-A or CDL-B License, ASE Certifications, Virginia State Inspector’s License

• Skills:

o Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair abilities

o Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components

o Proficiency with diagnostic tools and maintenance software

o Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

o Effective communication and mentoring abilities with a focus on safety and quality
