Job Duties:

The Upward Bound Program Advisor oversees public relations and general marketing operations of the Upward Bound Program as well as managing new student recruitment.  The Upward Bound Program Advisor is also responsible for helping Upward Bound staff in arranging, organizing, and delivering college preparatory services to program participants. Additionally, The Upward Bound Program Advisor performs various administrative duties to support the overall operations of the Upward Bound Program.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Schedules, secures, and communicates logistics and resources in support of a pre-college program
  • Serves as a main point of contact to students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements
  • May assist with monitoring of pre-college program budget spending
  • Provides support in identifying appropriate fields of study, career options, or programs and refers students to appropriate resources
  • Delivers pre-college program content and materials to community members
  • Leads the implementation of program policies and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the pre-college program
  • Researches, develops, and facilitates pre-college program content and materials

$43,000-$47,990, based on qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications
  • Experience in creating forms, documents, newsletters, event flyers and/or brochures.
  • Strong technical writing skills and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience with planning events or group activities, promotion, and implementation.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be available for evening and weekend work, especially during the six-week summer session.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or related area
  • One year’s experience working in similar programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of and work effectively with low-income, first-generation students and their families. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the college and financial aid application processes
  • Familiarity with Workday
  • Demonstrated experience with planning academic programs and/or college access advising.
  • Federal TRiO Program experience.

Terms of Employment:

This is an on-going academic staff position, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
