Job Duties:

Leads the operations of academic advising within the Academic and Career Advising Center (ACAC).  Works to ensure that all students receive quality academic support for eventual transition to an academic program of choice. Strives to create a welcoming and productive work environment.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders to maintain campus partnerships

  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and approving hours worked within the ACAC academic advising team.

  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered across the UWSP campus.

  • Assists in the development of strategic planning initiatives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources, and alignment with the UWSP strategic plan.

  • Maintains expertise with general education curriculum and academic success and college completion strategies for students as they relate to academic advising.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of ACAC, provide general oversight of programs, services and initiatives to meet the academic and career advising needs of UWSP students within the three-semester advising curriculum.

  • Actively contributes to the Academic Success leadership team in close collaboration with the Assistant Director of Careers, the Assistant Director of the Tutoring and Learning Center, and the Associate Director of Disability Resource Center

  • Assists in the development of operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives.

Department:

The Academic and Career Advising Center (ACAC) provides comprehensive academic advising, major exploration and career development services to students and alumni. Our academic and career advisers and career coaches assist students in developing educational and career plans to discover who they are, where they are going, and how to locate and navigate relevant experiences leading to a fulfilling career path. ACAC advisers are generalists that follow a three-semester academic advising curriculum. Career coaches educate and support students in career-related decision making through graduation and beyond.

Compensation:

$65,000 - $70,500 salary range based on qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in academic advising, career services, or a related area in post-secondary education.

  • Supervision experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of student development and/or career development theory as they relate to effective support of students

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Shares a leadership philosophy that supports the mission of UWSP University College and its values: Collaborating, Supporting, Connecting and Engaging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
