Cease Fire Investigator


This full-time law enforcement position is primarily responsible for investigating crimes involving gun violence or those that have a nexus to gun violence. The Investigator collects evidence, interviews witnesses, and testifies in court.


The Ceasefire Investigator is a sworn Law Enforcement position that is a non-uniformed Deputy. The King and Queen County Sheriff鈥檚 Office will provide the Criminal Investigator with a take-home vehicle and employee must follow the vehicle take-home car policy.


Minimum Requirements


路 Must be at least 21 years of age


路 Must possess a valid Driver鈥檚 License

路 Must have completed high school or have the equivalent of a high diploma.


路 1 year of law enforcement experience or a BS or BA degree


路 This position requires Law Enforcement certification.


路 Requires Court Security and Civil Process certifications


路 Must obtain Certification in Crime Scene Investigation within 2 years of employment

聽 聽with the Sheriff's Office.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities


路 Investigates crimes involving gun violence or a nexus to gun violence.


路 Assist with investigations of drug sales and use. The Investigator will be assigned to

聽 serve as a member of the regional drug task force.


路 Investigates criminal acts such as homicides, sexual assaults, armed robberies, home

聽 invasions, and property crimes such as burglaries.


路 Collect and use forensic evidence to solve crimes.


路 Interview informants, suspects, and witnesses to ascertain alibis, clues, time frames,

聽 and possible suspects.


路 Maintain detailed timely records as required and file paperwork as needed.


路 Process evidence carefully and ensure it gets sent to the proper department.


路 Send specimens to the laboratory to be analyzed with the specified timeframe.


路 Submit fingerprints through the database to obtain matches.


路 Follow up on all leads during the investigation.


路 Prepare investigative reports.


路 Prepare sketches, diagrams, video, and audio recordings.


路 Communicate to the jury the significance of evidence as it relates to proof.


路 Maintain an in-depth current knowledge of federal and state statutes and court cases

聽 related to work performed and agency rules and regulations.


路 Obtain search warrants as needed.


路 Perform surveillance and monitor suspects.


路 Analyze laboratory findings.


路 Exchange information and coordinate activities with other departments within the

聽 Criminal Justice field.


路 Record physical information about suspects.


路 Take fingerprints as needed.


路 Complete all tasks that a Court Security Deputy or a Patrol Deputy normally

聽 performs, as directed.


The position of Ceasefire Investigator is inherently a high-stress and physically demanding position. All sworn staff must complete a basic course and are expected to maintain skills and physical fitness. The King & Queen County Sheriff鈥檚 Office requires a fit-for-duty exam to be completed prior to hiring.


The following activities are expected of all sworn Criminal Investigators:


路 Sit or stand for long periods of time for four (4) up to eight (8) hours daily.

路 Manage a high level of stress for eight (8) up to twelve (12) hours daily.

路 Bend, reach, climb, and run is often a function completed daily.

路 Lift 0-25 pounds on a daily basis, lift聽25-30 pounds often, and lift 50+ pounds

聽 occasionally.

路 Ability to perform data entry and clerical work for four (4) up to eight (8) hours daily.

路 Manage the inherent danger of the potential daily risks during arrests using聽

聽 necessary and reasonable force to take someone into custody.聽
